09' SERG lowered rear, hitting the bags?
« on: May 10, 2009, 08:01:52 AM »

I have questions. Lowering the rear, by installing 12" shocks,
will those bag skid plates get scratched now.
Can you hit the bags even at stock height?

Just doing some research . . .

Thanks

The 09 SERG is lowered front and back, and I have never hit the skid plates yet, or floorboards. If just lowering the rear it would be possible to drag the bags.   Doc

I must be a little more aggressive in the twisties, Doc. I have drug a floorboard a time or two :2vrolijk_21:, but never a bag.

Oh, and my SERG has not had the suspension altered from the factory.

I've noticed quite a few people still asking about lowering the suspension of the SERG's, and it's got me confused.  I know that H-D hasn't done a good job of listing all the differences from standard like they used to do (I've got a pamphlet for my SEEG for instance that has an entire page of all differences from standard listed, including the lowered suspension), but my impression has always been that the SERG already has the 12" shocks.  Is this not correct?  If it is correct, isn't it something the dealers and H-D should be telling folks so they don't go and buy another lowering kit that won't lower anything?

The only thing I have ever touched is the kickstand. These bikes are already lowered and I consistantly bottom out the suspension over hard bumps with 30lbs in the rear shocks. I think trying to lower it anymore would create too many problems.

It is completly possible to drag the skid plates on Glendora Mountain Road In Cal. I found this out the hard way. it will not olny scrape the skid but will lift the rear tire off the ground. a change of shorts will be needed after the event!!! ;D

I lowered the rear of my bike about 1 1/2". I used one of those cheap adjustable lowering kits off of ebay just to try it out. I haven't dragged the bags yet.

My right floorboard and bracket have felt the ground, yesterday I hit it 3-4 times. those skid plates are there to protect at Curbs when parking

Are you certain the front is lowered?

when we were at CHL I followed fuzz and he didnt have any air in his shocks  :o and was riding two up.... we were over as far as you can go all floor boards and no bags. It was very, very close but no bag scrapes that I viewed.  But He would know for sure.
