More good, well paying union jobs lost.

Interesting. Actually "York" is three separate factories:
1.) The "new" Softail factory. This is only six years old and was always described as Harley's most modern facility. Can't imagine that this is at stake.
2.) The old Touring factory. This is of course the old fashioned factory. That may be impacted, I guess.
3.) The CVO assembly line. This is a tiny building close to the Touring factory. It does not look very modern, but of course modernizing this little portion of the entire production (approx. 5%) would not yield tangible benefits.

Ride safely,
Louis

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm this does not sound good, but MOCO will do what it has to do survive, unlike the BIG THREE that have done NOTHING to protect themselves or their share,

Harley Could Close, Scale Back York County Plant

YORK, Pa. -- Harley-Davidson said it may have to shut down or scale back its York County assembly plant.

The news spread at employee meetings that started with Monday's third shift.

An employee works on a Harley-Davidson softtail at the York facility.

Company officials said they outlined what they are calling a three-part strategy to improve efficiency at the York County plant.

Harley-Davidson is the third largest employer in York County. About 2,500 workers are employed at the plant.

Last month, the motorcycle maker announced a 37 percent drop in sales.

"As it stands York is not competitive long term ... due to cost pressures," company representative Bob Klein said.

In addition, "major changes will be needed," he said.

The changes include a major evaluation of the York operations facility as an assembly plant, he said.

Company officials will meet with the machinist union to come up with options that could keep a restructured and scaled back facility in York.

But the evaluation of the assembly plant also means they are "going to look at exploring other possible locations within the U.S.," Klein said

Harley has already announced more job cuts for later this year at the York County plant, but has not said how many.

Those cuts would be on top of the 340 jobs already eliminated since the beginning of the year.

So what? What do you mean, so what. That's the problem with the world today too many a--holes that only care about themselves. I bet you'd feel different if it was you losing your job.

I'm happy I got to tour the York plant already.  I hope they don't close it as it was quite good and educational for someone like me who had never gotten to tour manufacturing plants before.  I hope my " I walked the line" pin isn't one of the last...

The speculation of where they'll move to begins......... :nixweiss:

AJ and I just went on a tour of the York plant just last week. I knew that they had already cut out one shift and are only running 3rd and 1st shifts. The would be horrible for the area if they decide to close.

It's not Business since. To close down the plant and move. The cost to move and setup then train new Employees. It just would not be smart. You would have serious quality control issues. The only thing that I can see is if they are seeking some kind of kick back help from the City. Cuts in cost for Electricity or Taxes. Maybe I am wrong. We as a whole are all feeling the Economy crunch. All I can say is it would be very Sad.....
