Stainless Steel Braided Fuel Crossover Line AND a QD???
« on: May 17, 2009, 12:39:47 PM »

Got one of these AND a QD - 5/16th OD - was going to split the line, and got AN looking clamps to neaten it up...  BUT when I look at the crossover, does not appear to be 5/16th ID - but short of cutting it and and wasting my $35.00 anyone ever cut one or know the inside diam?

Sean-
I got one on my SEUC, the rubber o-rings in the ends do not like being disassembled! (had to replace it during the bike rebuild)

I'm not sure of the hose ID, but why not return it & build 1 from scratch using AN fittings, QD & yer own hose?

that is what I am probably going to have to do - finding 5/16th ID SS braided fuel line in Jacksonville is not happening

Sean, if the line you have is the same as I've had in hand before even though the fittings on the ends go over 5/16 line nipples the intermediate line is not a full 5/16.  OE braided crossovers I've had reason to mess with before also had a hard plastic sleeve inside that likely wouldn't readily expand and conform to the nipple of the QD.  Just not a good combination of parts to accomplish what you're wishing to accomplish.

Gotta say that one of the benefits of the new 6-gallon tank is the internal crossover. No hoses... disconnect the fuel line and mounting bolts and presto - tank comes off.

hdfr, isn't there more to taking the tank off than what you describe? The touring manual seems to say there is? Thanks

I don't have a bike with the new 6 gallon tank, but I'm thinking that there is a little more involved to remove the tank. It seems like there would be some kind of electrical connections to remove -like the power for the in-tank fuel pump, and the connection to the fuel gauge sending unit. Just guessing, but those might both be in the same connector?

It does sound nice not having to drain the tank and remove the cross-over line though.  8)

Just get the Colder QD, stainless line can be gotten at Summit Racing, and if ya want the pretty clamps Summit has a couple different choices on those. Make sure the o-ring in the QD is fuel rated, mine was not and I awoke to the smell of fuel the next morning. Auto Zone sells a variety pack of nitrile o-rings. Also be careful not to cut the o-ring reconnecting the QD.
