Wild One Chubby 575 with ABS.....
« on: May 18, 2009, 12:34:58 PM »

Anyone put WO575s on an 09 with ABS yet?  (Hope I'm not going to be the first.....!) :nervous:

Fitting them to my 07 I needed longer throttle and idle cables, so that's not going to be a problem on the 09.  BUT - I also needed the longer brake line.  So what's the story on the 09, where the brake line from the bars no longer goes to the front calipers directly, but back along the bike to the ABS unit?

Do I need to change that line?  (I'm hoping not, for three reasons - 1) to avoid the expense 2) to avoid the work 3) to avoid having to bleed the brakes, which I'd have to go to the dealer to get done - the ride down there might be interesting!)

Also - I can't recall from my 07 - is the wiring for the heated grips long enough? (have a vague recollection that I might have had to extend it...) and finally, how about the wiring for the fly-by-wire throttle, is that long enough?

Thanks guys!   :drink: :drink: :drink:

Just changed my Ruby to the WO575 and I am happy to report no brake line, clutch line or electrical wiring harness extensions required.

Firebike, could you post pics of the new bars, I am considering that change, what is your opinion of the comfort now, I am 5'7" and would like the bars a little higher, and also back more. Thanks for your help

Thanks Jim

Did you do it yourself and do you have any words of wisdom about the job?

I did mine mostly myself with no real problem. After I pulled the bars of I took them to my local Harley Dealer (which I have a pretty good relationship with) and they removed all the controls and wiring from my stock bars to the new 575's. They charged me one hour labor, at the same time I had them run two wires through the lefts side for me to hook up for my Garmin Zumo GPS. there were 3 or 4 connectors that had to come off the wiring harness to remove the wires.

Thought I would chime in here. I'm closer to 5'6", a little higher, a little back and a little wider. Made a huge difference to me I would do it again. And better control in slow manuvering. Anyway not reaching anymore.

I'll second that - and I'm 5'5". That's why I'm repeating the exercise in fitting it to this bike too.

I just bought from ebay WO575's for $140 + $14 for shipping.  I hope I am as fortunate with the brake and clutch lines as firebike.  I am not seeing a lot of extra length in mine.  Hopefully when I get into it I will find the necessary slack.
Thanks again for the info guys, when I get them and start the process I will take pictures during and after.
Looking forward to any pictures you have firebike when you get a chance.
Thanks

Done mine now - clutch pipe is very tight (even tighter than on my CUSE2), but just makes it. Left hand bar wiring is a bit tight, so you need to reposition the connector inside the fairing, but all else is no problem.

I'm guessing you got them from the same seller as me (in Co?) - they are not slotted for TBW, but it's a relatively easy modification to make them work just fine.  See my other post for details.

You are correct they are not slotted so if you could give me any details you learned while making them work I would be grateful
Thanks

It's really easy, GT. You need to cut ¼" (note, NOT ½" which was what Wild1 Inc suggested to me, and what Flanders says - possibly correct for non-chubbies!)  off the end, and cut three slots in the end - you can mark up the locations with the TBW gizmo and measure the width depth of the slots off the old bars (actually two slots directly opposite each other 3/8" wide, and one slot 3/16" wide on top of the bars between the other two. All are 1/4" deep.) Exact position of the slots on the bars circumferentially is not important, as long as they are all the correct spacing apart.

Any queries, just drop me a PM.
