Oh, by the way..........AAA will not tow bikes, neither will the Chevron Auto Club or Allstate Motor Club.

That's good to note, in any case, it is just a call center that your calling.  Luck of the draw if you find someone that knows what your talking about if the dealers are closed.

I guess there are as many types of chapters as there are riders. Depending on your own level of commitment and involvement everyone will get a different feel about the value added to their life from a HOG chapter. What one chapter member doesn't like about a chapter, there are ten more that love that about it.

We had belonged to a chapter, sponsored by the dealer where we bought our first HD from. We rolled up our sleeves and dived in head first in what ever activity the club was involved in. We at some point in time had worked in almost every officer position the club had. We have a lot of very close and dear friends from our involvement with that chapter. Naively, when we moved to our current home a year and a half ago, we just went and signed up with the local HOG chapter, thinking we would just step in like before and ride and have fun.

Well this local chapter seems to have a few core people who ride with each other, they don't seem to want any more to join in, and those that are not of the core don't feel welcome to join in (I have been told by them, and I felt this myself) or they just plain don't "Ride and Have Fun" in my terms of riding and having fun.  My favorite riding partner and I seem to put 300 - 400 miles minimum on our bikes when we go out. This spring when my husband was out of town, I met up with one of my friends from the local chapter, and was surprised when she paled at the concept of driving 120 miles one way to an event.  So after trying several meetings and rides, we finally looked around our horizon and went and joined a chapter a little further away (about 40 miles I guess) and they are awesome.

They welcomed us like we were old friends.  They have several events a week planned that you come to, or don't, doesn't matter. We get a dozen email updates about what is going on, when it is going on, someone just throws out a local I am heading this away if interested.  They do pass a plate for charity events, but who doesn't in these local times, and you put in or don't your call.  The bottom line is that [size=14]"They Ride and They Have FUN!"  [/size]Now we feel we have met some real family that we can hang out with and ride with.

So both MrWeCVO and I are lifetime members of National HOG and are members, active and not so active with some local HOG chapters. We maximize our opportunity to buy merchandise at a dealership at a discounted price, we have friends to ride with and when we are at the National and State HOG rallies we have built in friends and riding buddies.

As I stated at the beginning, I am sure that everyone's experience is different. But I for one, enjoy being a member of a local chapter, but if I don't want company, that is OK too.

Hey Fired00d, if I was a young man like you, I'd go for the deal on the life membership.  I'm so old, I'd buy membership by the week if they'd sell it that way.  Har!  [smiley=drink.gif] spyder

Spyder,
Thanks for the compliment, however I sometimes feel like I've got the body of an eighty year old. With all my aches and pains resulting from years of misuse to this body I wonder if all the fun was worth it. But I guess I'll take the aches and pains, because if I can feel them that means I woke up alive and can ride another day, and enjoy the refreshments after the ride  [smiley=drink.gif].

I'll put in my 2 cents to this topic.
I went right to the life membership for the road service and the national rallies primarily. I was always a lone rider, so the local chapter thing didnt have to much appeal to me. Riders that I see alot at local rides or events talked me into attending a couple of meeting. I had the same story money, $$, more money, and we need this, oh by the way you need to sell these raffle tickets for the scooter we need to off for this charity, AND if you dont get rid of the tickets you own them. ! ??? Hello ?? excuse me are you doing crack ?? People you are doing NOTHING , NOTHING to enhance my riding experiance. This has got to be fun or it aint a damn thing!! We all work, this is something that seems to be along those lines. Okay then bye bye........... [smiley=smilie_daumenneg.gif]

Our chapter is large enough that the group splits with some doing the 5-10 mile dinner ride and others doing a 250-350 day ride around Arizona.

What chapter? I've been looking to join but not looking to do dinner rides with some bimbo that's been riding for a month. I let my membership to Stubbs chapter expire for that reason. I hope thats not the chapter your in , if so, no thanks, the wife and I go up to Payson and Flag and Prescott all the time by ourselves. Let me know.

I'm a member of HOG, but not the local chapter.  Three of the members approached me and informed me I rode to "Aggressive!"  Imagine that!  I told them they needed to get something that would run, and to kiss my lily white a$$!  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] Later--HUBBARD

[I'm still laughing]

FROM:  Hubbard's local HOG Chapter
TO:  The Tater himself

Dear Mr. Hubbard:  As President of your local HOG (Hubbard and Otis done Gone) chapter, I regret to inform you that upon observing your sickle riding habits, I have heretofore eliminated you from consideration for membership in our esteemed organization.  It is our opinion that you demonstrate a level of behavior that can only be termed as aggressive, insomuch as this type of behavior has been known to result in the near loss of expensive dental equipment while trying to open a beer can with ones' mouth while riding.  It is my understanding that you, yourself have had said experience.

However, I will reconsider your application for membership should you replace your current equipment (Maude aka "the Lead Sled") for a two wheeled machine of the variety less intimidating to our current membership.  Since your riding habits would undoubtedly surface no matter what level of powered two-wheeled vehicle, your membership will require you to only ride vehicles powered by engines of 50cc or less.  Such delicate and low-powered machinerey should eliminate your desire to "ride aggressively".

See you at the next run.

C.M. Rideslow, President

Hubbard at the next HOG ride:

Maybe BLM's on to something.  Maybe they said "expressive", and were admiring the way you carved the road like an artist, say a sculptor.

Or maybe they said "impressive".  They were probabaly amazed at your skills and were hoping you'd hold riding classes for the whole Chapter.

They're probably still scratching their heads trying to figure out why you got so pi$$ed off. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
