Hmmmm, I don't think they said anal.  I believe it was more like azzhole. :o

Sorry Chip, I just couldn't resist.

If that's all you can think of, go have a cup of coffee, and come back and try again.  But then who am I to talk.  I know the service dept at my dealer isn't real fond of me at all.  Can you imagine that I actually want things fixed correctly without them damaging my bike in the process?  Wow, I am a bstrd!  I also think they are tired of me telling them about bulletins that they have there and never bothered to read.  At least the sales manager seems to appreciate me to an extent.  Yesterday, he showed me how the front tires on the touring bikes were going in a different direction on each bike.  I explained it to him and told him that service has a bulletin on this.  He told me that he's going to start calling me with questions first, since I seem to always be on top of these things that noone else seems to be familiar with...thanks to this forum.

If you take your back wheel off to clean your bike, I give up.  I cannot compete with that.  I don't even take the seat off on all occasions.

I made a separate post with a procedure for dealing with this issue.  I just thought that it would make it easier to find.  http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=37661.msg591031#msg591031

The technic master of my dealer told me that the swingarm is a " open part " and that it is not covered inside with anything , so it rosts , that would be no problem and the MoCo said that all is in green line with this swingarm .
Water comes in and water gets out - don`t worry .
Supidupi , and i can allways clean away the rust , damn fuc....ing open system .
strange thinking of a top of the top product .

I sent an email to my service manager earlier today asking him about rust on MY 09 SEUC swingarm.

I also let him know that mine was not an isolated incident based on complaints posted on different forums.

Two things about my service department,
(1) they are great to work.
(2) putting it writing expressing concern about a swingarm rusting to a point of failing and causing bodily harm.
Always gets their attention.

They called Harley about the issue.
Harley acknowledged there was an issue and was working on a cure/fix.
My bike was assigned a case number for future reference.
As anal as they think I am, (not sure why) I know and they know I want an answer as to the cure/fix as soon as possible.
So as soon as I know I will post the cure/fix.

And an interesting note, the service manager asked if they just sealed where water could enter and opened up holes where it could exit would that work?
The response was "DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES TO THE SWINGARM, WE ARE WORKING ON A CURE/FIX!"
I will keep you posted!

:orange: Today my dealer showed me the letter from MoCo with the fix. Completed that fix along with the tank recall fix in 45 minutes. Basically, they drill a new hole in the cover to allow the water to flow out easier. Also told me that the inside of the swingarms were coated and would not rust. (Not sure I buy that one yet)

Just had mine done when they replaced the front tire with the aircraft grade fastener embedded.  The tank mount recal was done a couple of days ago.  I tried to get the ABS program updated, tehy said it was already at the new program, not sure I believe them, but all work is down after the did the brake reflash again to get the ABS light to go out.

Took wife's SERG in yesterday and same thing. Letter shows to drill a hole in the plastic, which they did. Tank recall was done, ABS updated.

Mine's next.

This thread was started in May of 09, I took my bike in yesterday. The service manager had not heard of the swingarm problem. He did not challenge me on it (he doesn't do that anymore  :huepfenlol2:) but had not heard of it. This is what I am working with  :nixweiss:

Marty

Getting the tank recall done, isolator , still working on the abs !!!
