« on: May 31, 2009, 10:02:59 PM »

In the market for a new laptop.  Anybody use a Mac?
Would love to hear the good and the bad.
Will I be able to use it on my SERT?

i just got my first mac :2vrolijk_21:

went with the 17" macbook pro. upgraded a bit too. :orange:

there has been a learning curve but all programs are menu driven these days so it just a matter of getting used to it. not sure of the sert but the tts requires windows. :nixweiss:

and while you can partition the harddrive and install windows on a mac.....ah nevermind. :drink:

good luck

i will own another mac :2vrolijk_21:

I think one of the best features about the Mac for casual users is the automatic backup. You never have to worry about losing files again.

I dont know anyone who has switched to a Mac that went back.

Have an iMac and a MacBook.  I use Parallels so I can run Windows (some work things are PC only) when I need to within a program so Windows and it's viruses do not get free rein over my Mac.

After 3 years we had our iMac freeze.  I brought the kids in to show them this as we had never seen that before.  Turned power off and back on and all was fine.  On my PC at work this happens at least 1-2 times a week.  Funny what you accept as OK on a PC (where no iTunes, games, questionable surfing, etc. are allowed).

I can run the SERT program using Parallels, but I had the dealer do my setup so I don't know if there are would be any issues actually using it to tune a bike.  Using Bootcamp your Mac would boot as an actual PC and there would be no compatibility issues ever.  I have avoided booting my Mac as a true PC so far by running Parallels with good success.

Switched from PC to Mac at home 3 years ago and will never go back. On my second iMac. Great machines, make using a computer fun again. Still have to use a Windows laptop for work and it makes me appreciate the Mac all the more. You pay a bit more but that's not a foreign concept to CVO owners so you know what that's like.

I have to use a PC at work and found that this FREE software does GREAT.

So if you are stuck with a PC, this will speed it up. Good Luck.

Amen!  You will love it once you get over the fear of switching over.  Go for it!

my next machine will be a Mac.

I've had it with windows, the crashing, the BSOD nonsense, the driver conflicts, etc etc etc

Never went from XP to Vista, heard way too many horror stories to even contemplate that.  So hopefully I never own Windows 7 or whatever the "next thing" is.  I've had it.

Only ever heard glowing reviews of Macs, and the old arguments that there's no software for them is simply gone.  And PC emulators can fill in where those gaps still exist.

I've heard a lot of horror stories about Vista too. I've got an HP Laptop, 10 inch screen with Vista last summer and never had one crash in the year that i have used it. My wife has a nice Dell with Vista, same thing no crashes runs good, just like my Jims 131  :P  Macs are good computers, but think i stick Windows based for a awhile. Sure would hate to replace all my Windows software/programs for a Mac based system. I'm good with Windows  :2vrolijk_21:

Got an iMac....would never buy another PC. Just too good at what it does...music, photos, internet, mail....plus I bought Microsoft Office for MAC so I can run Word, Excel, and PowerPoint if I need to.

Bought my wife and two kids Macbooks....everyone loves them.

Highly recommend...plus, they just had a price decrease this past week.

Good luck.
