Vinyl Albums (records!)
« on: June 13, 2009, 12:16:56 AM »

After the interest in the recent movie thread, I thought the old classic albums I recently acquired were worth mentioning.  To the best of my thc laden memory, these albums were all part of my collection & now I have them back again (thanks to Dennis Hartman @ American Pie records in Ventura):

Credence Clearwater Revival, Green River
Credence Clearwater Revival, Cosmos Factory
Credence Clearwater Revival, Bayou Country
Lee Michaels, 5th
Ten Years After, A Space In Time
Rod Stewart, Never A Dull Moment
The Moody Blues, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Deja vu
Simon and Garfunkel, Bridge Over Troubled Water
Simon and Garfunkel, Bookends
Led Zeppelin, II
Neil Young, Harvest
Beatles, Let It Be
Beatles, Abbey Road (in original celophane - that was expensive)
Stevie Wonder, Songs In The Key of Life
Santana, Abraxas (uncensored)
Neil Diamond, Hot August Nights (original autographed - again, expensive)

Anyway, there were many other albums there - I'm sure most anything you could think of.  But these albums meant something to me, every one of them are in excellent shape, and it feels great having them back again.

Anyone else with original vinyl?

I'm a vinyl junkie. Have a VPI TNT turntable (about what I paid for my Wide Glide) and 1,000 or so LP's. Everything from the rock & roll I had in college to a lot of my dad's old big band jazz stuff. Quite a few collectable Mo Fi Half Speed Masters and Direct to Disc stuff. Still sounds better than CD's!

Another fan of vinyl here. Thrift stores are a great source for albums, Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. Recent finds for me:
Jethro Tull   Thick as a Brick    Mint
Alice Cooper   Billion Dollar Babies  with cards and billion dollar bill!  Mint
Herb Alpert  Whipped Cream and other Delights   Mint
and many others.
For those that forgot, you can't beat the sound of vinyl. Yes your cd is clear, but sound quality can't be matched.

In my younger days I had well over 500 albums when CD's came out I got rid of all of them except my AEROSMITH albums. I do wish I had some of them back now.

Great collection you have, but what about...

Joe Cocker - Mad Dogs & Englishmen
Iron Butterfly - Inagoddadivita
Led Zepplin - I or III
and of course Woodstock

just to name a few.

Having been in radio when vinyl was king I had quite the collection until recently.  I know this may sound foolish but it was taking up too much space and I wanted to let them go to someone that would appreciate them.

I gave away over 5,000 LPs to a young adult that conducted some work on my home.  He thought he had won the lottery and it did my heart some good knowing they were going to a good home.

Not to be a total a$$, but what would you do with LP's and 45's without a Turntable?

I have lost a few 45's from stuffing them in my 8 track     :vrolijk_9:
