harley does still offer the download. in '07 on my friend, a service manager's bike, he did the air cleaner and backing plate, and se pipes and a download. the thing went from not running well, to really going down the road quickly both accelerating and at a high speed cruise. I know for a fact they had it in '07, so check your facts before you say they don't have it anymore...or at least get the year correct
Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, as Steve Martin would say. I should have been more specific in my comments, and I could be mistaken, but prior to the '07 model year, I know for a FACT that the downloads to the ECM for the SE A/C, and aftermarket exhaust, which included the SE slip on mufflers (which is exactly what I had on my 06 SEUC from day one), was a "race only" download, meaning that it did not meet EPA guidelines. Again, I could be misremembering, as I am an old fart who has murdered many brain cells in my day. With the introduction of the 110 motor (and the 96) the ECM had "closed loop" with the O2 sensors being an additional component of steady throttle running (like cruising down the highway) in order to meet the lean EPA requirements for the '07 and later model years.
HD, in their infinite wisdom, basically stuck a product out on the market in '07 which had a myriad of issues, and the "download" you are speaking of was their attempt to get the motors to quit self destructing during consumer Beta testing. It is ONLY a "street legal" download, as Jerry mentions, and as the documentation itself states. Further, it is my opinion they did this "torque smoothing" download to keep from warping and generally f'ing up the cheap Chinese crankshafts they started using in that same time period. My earlier statement should have said "there are no longer any "race only" downloads available, UNLESS you purchase the $450 SERT and either take your chances with one of the "canned" maps that comes with the SERT, or have the bike put on a dyno and properly tuned".
Most of these crank issues have been resolved, from my reading, as have the leaking heads, etc, but the '07's had a LOT of issues when released. If you want your bike to run at it's best, get a tuning device of your choice and have a COMPETENT tuner put the bike on a dyno. I"m not sure the word competent and dealer tech should be used in the same sentence, but if you have a good person at your dealership, more power to you (no pun intended).
