Monster Ovals
« on: June 19, 2009, 05:06:23 PM »

Well after doing a lot of reading and listening to You tube videos, I decided to buy a set of Vance and Hines Monster Oval Slipons. I put them on this afternoon between rain storms and took them for a little spin. Here are my impressions for what it is worth.

1. I reversed the tips to match the slant of the bags because I liked the way they looked better, they are very large and look a little strange to me on my 2004 SEEG, mostly because of how they stick out so far in the back. i think I will look for a set of black tips to replace the chrome to change how long they look.

2. They are much quieter then I thought they would be on the 103ci. At idle they are quieter than my Screamin Eagle 65115-98b's and going through the gears they are about the same volume. Not as deep as I expected but deeper than my SE's and definitely not as loud as I expected.

3. I noticed that I can get the rpm's higher before shifting since the sound from the mufflers is muted at the higher rpm's.

4. The sound is much less raspy than my SE's and seem to have a nice tone at 2000 rpm as well as 3000 rpm.

5. As you climb through the rpm's the sound does not raise in volume as much as most other mufflers.

I am really not sure I can live with the looks but I will try for a while to get used to them since I like the sound.

I will post some pics of how they look on the bike this evening, I need to get back to work and ready for a group ride to the Harley Museum tomorrow.

Well - I sold the Monster Ovals and bought the Kuryakyn Crushers and it is too bad I could not get used to the looks of the MO's because they had a great sound. Much more mellow the the Crushers. The Crushers are louder and deeper but also raspier and similar to the Rineharts. On the other hand they look great on the bike. I will post some pics later, I need to take them for another test run. Does anyone know if the 2004 SEEG came with the 8 degree or the 25 degree injectors. I was going to try a different Power Commander map that was tuned for the 25 degree injectors.

Thanks
