my oil guage and old dealer....
« on: June 19, 2009, 08:13:46 PM »

i just had the dealer install my oil temp guage where the air temp guage was. the dealer kept my air guage and didnt give it back, put a scratch on my mirror. the guage doesnt light up at all. there is now a thump when i put on the front brake, and "again" for the third time the oil level is about a half a quart over. my first bike i took in for oil change was over filled a whole quart and it started comming out of the intake all over my leg and side of my bike on the highway. the day i got my serg home i put about 300miles on it then checked my oil and it was a half a quart low. when i told the guy at the dealer about it, he say's it runs better that way.....now on this last oil change.....and i do mean last.....it was a half a quart over. im done with that shop...."F & S" harleydavidson dayton ohio......they can kiss my tailpipe...

Have you considered changing your own oil?  It is really quite simple - you'd save a few bucks - and you'd probably get it done right.... ;)

I think you are much better off by buying a MC jack and a maunual for your bike. We do all of our own maintainance and add ons. We do whatever we can to keep away from the dealerships, or "stealerships" as they say. Seems like we roll the dice anytime we get near those places. Most items are not that hard to put on and oil changes, primary changes are easy too once you do it a few times. Sorry for your headaches. You are not alone.

Just my opinion, why waste time telling us, 1) write MOCO & tell them, 2) don't trade there again....the rest will take care of it's self.

Maybe because sharing this kind of information is a big part of these on-line forums, and perhaps someone else in that area will learn what that dealership is like and not go there.  Ultimately that is our only real weapon against lousy dealers, knowledge that leads to people not spending their money with the bad guys.

1.  Contact the MoCo and complain, but don't expect much.  Perhaps those complaints will count against the dealer somewhere down the road, like if Harley ever gets back to having shortages and starts restricting dealer allocations, but I don't see that being an issue anytime soon.

2.  Don't trade there in the future, for anything.  Definitely don't buy another bike there, or accessories, or elective service work, or even a T-shirt.  Don't even go there for warranty work if you can find another dealer relatively close.

3.  Make sure the owner/general manager of the store knows you aren't spending any more money in his place, and why.

4.  Share your feelings about this dealership with all your biker friends and acquaintances.  Word of mouth is still the best advertising, both positive and negative.

What grc said! Always vote with your feet and spend your money elsewhere. It is really pathetic when somebody is getting paid to screw up an oil change.

What Jerry said -

Forums are for the exchange of information - good & bad.  Anyone that is in the area of the mentioned dealer can get an idea of their attitude and level of competence, and make the decision to spend any money at said dealer, or not.  Thanks to HOGDOG, if I am ever in the Dayton Ohio area, I know to avoid his dealer.  Thanks for the info.

For jettjocky, why waste your time reading this forum - everything will "take care of itself" - right?
