Part of my bike came in the mail today!
« on: November 17, 2005, 03:05:47 PM »

LOL, Well it beats nothing, but my painted candy crimson led saddlebag lights arrived today from Benjys.  Really look cool in the sun. I see where the candy in the name comes from. Kind of a red metalflake deep under the black.  Now if I just had a bike to install them on.   :'(

06, I didn't take any pics before packing them back up, but the part number for the Black Candy Crimson is 58606-06BYY and they came from Benjy's. They're a 20% off dealer. My price was $151.96, showing a discount of $37.99. They're on Page 414 of the 06 catalog.

When is your bike due to arrive?  I noticed in another post that you ordered in August.  Seems like you should have it by now.  How do the LED lights look?

Pro, my original date and the one they're still going by is a Dec 5 delivery date, but according to all the info I've seen, I'm expecting at least a three week delay.  The Black bikes were last in the first paint rotation and my dealer is only getting one Black one, so I'm having to be patient, not one of my redeeming qualities.  I knew it would be a long wait, so I prepared myself beforehand. My Brother in law has permanently loaned me his 02 Goldwing to keep my knees in the breeze, but it's just not a Harley.  I think he thought he could convert me, but no way. Fall here has been unusually warm and dry so it has been nice to have two wheels available when needed.

I had a call from the dealer yesterday, they still don't have a Crimson for me but they have a Buyer for My B/B SEEG already.

Yea, well, thanks for reminding me Mr.M.   :( I'm just trying to think of the positive aspects.  I'm using the hip pocket national bank for this purchase, so each month that goes by, I add a few more $$$$ to the bike fund.  Also most of my accessories will be sitting in my garage when the bike arrives.

GC, I feel your pain, I looked at the fat HD book most nights looking for parts to add to my bike, wife thought I was nuts [smiley=confused5.gif] my bike was 3 weeks late and everyday I thought Hmm maybe today will be the day. when it came in and I got it home spent the night putting on the long list of parts I bought :). then came the 500 mile break in  :-? how was going to put on 500 miles before the cold weather came, 3 days later I hit the 500 mark :) a little cold but it felt great, dam now I got to get a 1000 miles before winter hits >:( 2 weeks later and some cold rides with the wife
( love that heated seat and those grips are a god send )  [smiley=banana.gif] hit the 1000 miles, picked it up from the dealer after the 1000 service in 30 degree weather, now I am back to looking at the HD fat book for more parts,  [smiley=cherry.gif] its going to be a long expensive winter............   [smiley=nixweiss.gif] [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Hope you reeive your bike earlier than you expect. Good luck.  Mine was scheduled for 10/12 ship date-  and I am taking delivery tomorrow- about 4 weeks behind what I originally expected.  Saw the bike today- (went by dealership to pay for it).  All paperwork is out of the way and I have keys.  All I have to do tomorrow is pick it up and ride!   Have you enjoyed the temporary GoldWing? Actually- I think it is an awesome bike. Quick and smooth. But as you said-  it's no Harley. Saw the new SE Fatboy at the dealership- WOW!  Looks great. That's a FAT back tire- and a beautiful paint job.

Hey Pro, I went deer hunting this weekend and am just now catching up on posts. Sorry to hear of your dissapointment with your new bike. Hope they can work it out for you. I agree with the other comments about not spending a ton on a standard Ultra, unless you prepare yourself for a big hit when you sell. I just went thru that selling my standard that I spent a ton on. Took most of the accessories off and sold them seprate, then priced the bike accordingly and did OK. As for the Goldwing, yea it's fast and smooth and it's good to ride to work as my hours are early and it doesn't wake anybody up, but when the SEUltra gets here, I won't be looking to buy a GW.  LOL

It's ok to be die hard Harley. I love the two we have in the garage. I personally am not totally opposed to owning bikes from the jap crowd as long as I have my Harley. You do an exhaust change on a new GW and they sound pretty mean, a guy from my HOG chapter just got one and I have to admit its a nice bike and a stock GW vs a stock CVO ultra.....18,000 vs 32,00. Lets be honest the GW is more comfortable, it has alot more goodies on it like adjustable air ride suspension on the fly, adjustable headlights, a vented windshield etc.............and twice as much hp out of the crate.....what's not to like other than the fact its a Honda?

I can't speak from experience because I don't ride a touring bike..yet. For now to me it still seems like if you want a radio and a big fairing etc etc, just drive the cage. I like my bikes with wheels and a seat and a handlebar to move the engine down the road with my face in the wind, but thats just me!

Scott,

If we were to make our purchasing decisions based strictly on logic and value, it would be hard to justify the Harley over the Honda.  As you said, more comfortable, more power, more standard features, etc. for much less $$$.  Fortunately for H-D, a lot of us threw logic out the window and went with our emotions.  In the past, we at least had much better resale value on our side.  Time will tell if that holds up, but I'm guessing that it wont, considering the glut of bikes right now.  Still no big though, just won't be able to trade as often. ;)

As for your statement about touring bikes, that is exactly what I said and felt at your age.  I still miss the lighter, smaller bikes I owned that I could throw around, but then when the weather gets crappy I'm much happier behind that fairing and lowers.  I never thought I would use a radio either, and in fact I didn't on the SEEG for the first month or so.  Now I play a CD or the radio about 80% of the time.  No matter how many creature comforts you add though, it is still 1000% better than riding in the "cage".
