CVO poor quality control?
« on: June 29, 2009, 11:22:23 AM »

I am a new member, hope to own a CVO in the next several months or so, and I am a bit dismayed. I was reading some posts concerning the inclusion of the CVO built bikes into the regular assembly lines. I was surprised to see the number of riders unhappy with the quality of the CVO!! What's up? Thank you in advance.  Gary .

First, welcome to the site.
Second, in life and in motorcycles it is rare to see, hear and or read when people are happy.
News tends to be about bad stuff that has gone wrong or wasn't right to begin with.
Bad news sells, people perceive good news as the way things should be to begin with and therefore don't talk about it.

Try this, start a thread called "I'm drkarate49 and I want to read good news about the quality of your Screamin Eagles."
You will be amazed.
There are plenty of us here that are happy with our Screamin Eagles.

Buy one before they stop making them!  Just pulling your leg.  Only had mine a few months and love it.  I waited because of what I had read and it was a mistake.  If you want one, get one, you won't be disappointed.  Your opinion is the only one that really matters.

You won't see a thread that says "my bike went straight down the road today" or "my radio works great" or "my engine is really quiet and smooth" or "my gas gauge works perfectly" and so on.  Who cares when things are right.  What you are seeing on the forum are the individual problems that we have and we are looking for solutions...therefore the norm will be negative items that you will see posted.  I posted a thread a while back...I think it was me...and I think it was titled something like "I Love My CVO".  I don't remember how many pages of accolades there were, but it was quite a few pages of people praising their bikes.  I love my bike, but when I have a problem, I don't love it so much, until I get it fixed and then I love my bike again.  Don't worry...buy a CVO and you will be very pleased with your purchase 99% of the time.  After that 1% of the time, you get it repaired and then it's like having make-up sex when you get it back...well not completely like make-up sex, but you know what I mean.

If you expect perfection for your $35k, forget about a CVO.  Actually, if you expect better than average for your $35k you will probably be better off looking elsewhere.  But if you are accustomed to the way H-D does things and the way they treat customers, and if you are the type who can fall into a pile of doo and come out smelling like roses, then by all means buy one.

H-D and me  -  a classic love / hate relationship.  Current score:  love 40, hate 50, bewildered 10.

OOOH, couldn't have said it better, and I think I've tried.  It is disappointing that the MOCO thinks they can do business the same way as when there was a two year waiting list for bikes, but they are still operating under the assumption that people will continue buying into the mystique regardless of the build quality.  What irritates me most is these 110s aren't anything new, just a larger version of what they've been selling for many years, so it shouldn't have been difficult to make it without all the problems.

If she gets upset when you buy it, at least you'll have a nice comfortable ride to take off on for a long trip while she cools down.

Like others, I've owned several H/D over the years. When I bought my SERG I knew it wasn't built like a BMW and with all harleys there would be "issues".
That being said, I luv this bike and I wouldn't want any other.

Like I tell the owners of other brands - "If I have to explain, you wouldn't understand".

i had a 07 heritage and kept fighting the heat issue. i kept wanting people to look at it and say oooooohhh...ahhhhh....nice bike...but no one did...i paid 20k for the bike and put about 5k into it trying to get those looks from other bikers....and no one would look at my bike like they would my brothers crossbones when it first came out. then i got that cvo. and people cant stop looking at it. i get the oooohhh ahhhhhh's now. and the ride is soooooooo much better....i had to fight my heritage to ride it. and my 09 serg practicly rides itself. and it is sooo much fun......fast as heck......i love it. and i dont have the pipes, seat, tuner on it yet. (hopefully next week). and i have the right to say "i have a gold key" is sweet....hehe....
