For those of you who want to install their own emblems I have some tips that might help. My new tank came without emblems, they had to order them separately, and I decided I wanted them to be perfect so I told the dealer I would install them.

First, I took pictures of the old milky tank before they installed the new one. I found the two weren't quite in the same position. Anyway, the new emblems come with a plastic backing on them so you can slide them around a bit on the tank. Put the bike up on a lift if you have one, it helps a lot. Here's the tip part, position them about where you think they should go and then slowly move them left and right, up and down. You will feel exactly where they should go. They find the high spot on the tank and settle right in on that spot. A little in any direction and you can feel the emblem lift a bit from where it fits the flattest on the surface. I then took some of that blue painters tape and marked several edges around the emblem for a guide. As for the tail of the emblem, you can set that where ever you think it looks the best. It can follow the paint stripes or come up a bit. I opted to have them follow the stripes pretty closely. I also used the bottom of “Davidson” and lined that up with the red stripe as another reference. I did some measuring and found they were very close in position. When you remove the backing from the emblem and stick it down, have it exactly where you want it first, once it touches the tank it's stuck. I practiced a bit placing them before removing the backing. I cleaned the surface with some alcohol first.

I'll post some pictures as soon as I can of my emblems as they are now.

Good luck.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

TC,  After the ordeal I've been through with my melon, I've developed some thick skin.  I don't take offense to much anymore.  I love that scooter, and that is what really matters.  Despite her paint issues, she is a great girl.
Riders seems to be a great dealership.  I remember when the dealer in Pelham was called Riders.  They're Heart of Dixie now.  Anyway, the last time I was in the new Riders was when we had our daughter at UAB Children's Hospital last summer.  Needed the break.  Anyway, I was impressed with their attitude then.  The only problem was we lived in Enterprise at the time.  Now things are different since we live just north of Huntsville.  They treated me great yesterday, however I'm keeping my guard up for two reasons:  First, my bike hasn't been fixed yet.  Second, I gotta wonder if their actions were a show since the rep was right there with me.  We'll see.
I'd love to get together and ride.  Since the weather has turned cooler I've shifted the focus of my sparse free time to completing my private pilot license.  I'm flying tomorrow, and Sunday is a study day.  We'll get together and ride sometime tho'.

Bagger...Riders has some pretty good parts guys there...haven't tried their service dept.  The same guy owns Heart of Dixie, so they've got Birmingham wrapped up.  I have NOT had good success with Heart of Dixie's service dept though...perhaps Rider's is better.  I have found a great parts guy at H of Dixie...Brandon is the young man's name...and there is one guy at Rider's who seems to know his stuff...has a Fu beard, I think.

They really do try to have good customer service, so I don't think that part was an act.  Time will tell...I just hope you get taken care of and complete your scoot the way it should have been.  I love mine too, so know what you mean.  Best of luck to you, and we'll for sure go riding when the weather and your schedule permits!!  Take care, Bro!!

I only opened the box and peeled back enough of the  bubble wrap and tissue to see the top of the tank, and check the color, I didnt want to scratch the parts re-boxxing them untill they are installed,  I hope ur right on the emblems, .........and also hope that they fired the guy who installed wrongways before he installed my emblems..

Ya know.... before the sale is the only time you have the advantage... after that, you are at the mercy of the dealer and the MOCO.
The sales person won't know what to make of those of us who have had to jump through hoops to make something right that should have been right in the 1st place. They're going to have to invent a new word for super ultra mega laser maximum anal retentive nitpicker.  ;D ;)

Good luck with the installs.  Let's look at the brightside and figure all is well.

No point to stress out until you see the finished product. [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Stopped by yesterday afternoon to see the progress, they already had it finished and the girl was detailing it, (I tipped her $20 for the extra coat of wax that I suggested might be needed on the parts of the bike no one can see  ;)..the sun was hitting part of the fairing and tank, Diffently black now, however, the new fairing looked like it didnt have much crimson flake in it, the tank had a lot of crimson flake, more so than the old lids....so Im wondering here, if there is a different proces for metal and plastic painting on the fix?, who else that has the new parts can tell me how theirs are???, I didnt have time to pick up the bike yet, and I'll Go over it with them when I pick it up. The other thing, one of my emblems was crooked, the other one perfect, so Nancy said she'd order a new one. It sure sucks being inflicted with ACD....anal complusive disorder.

Sounds all good, minus the emblem.

Any chance for some sunny pics when you pick it up?

Mike...it's really hard to determine how much crimson flake is in the paint on each part because it is so dependent on how the light is striking it...you would almost have to postion the bike's parts in exactly the same angle to the sun.  The main thing is the clearcoat!!  If you can feel your stripes on the striped parts (but just barely), you've got the new paint process.  My paint came right, and at certain times the inner and outer fairing looks different, depending on how the sun is hitting it, but they are the same.

Hope everything turns out well for you today!!

Thanks Mike, I think I will be happy, first if mine is Black and second if it has the equivelant amount of Crimson, but the Black is the biggest part for me......just so I can get rid of the Milk dud effect.
