Even though we've had direct evidence that people at Harley at least occasionally monitor some of the threads here you just about have to believe it's not a regular thing or that they simply must be stoned when doing so.  Just totally oblitteradly (might have coined a new one there) wasted.

Nothing else could account for what would seem, to any normally responsible and cognizant person, such an embarrassing discontinuity between levels of support given one consumer as opposed to another for the same family of failure.  Not sure if it's hubris or incompetence.  But I'd bet on hubris.  They're successful enough it's just more likely they'd be assholes rather than that stupid.

Twincam, congrats on having an appropriately responsible dealer willing and able to respond as needed.  Keeping HDI out of the equation as much as possible seems to better the odds remarkably for those who so benefit.

Don, I have to agree.  My guys have been great and worked with the contact they have at the factory.

No idea what the problem is with a consistant application of policy.  Some reps are obviously a problem, some dealers, no telling how it gets this way.

Most likely some dealers have been hammered on audits, some reps get sun shy when warranty dollars go wildly out of line in their districts.......a million reason, none of which hold water in this case.  The bikes should get fixed.  Right is right.  Too bad it takes so much effort in some cases that good paying customers just give up and leave the brand or go independant.  It just isn't right. IMHO

I seriously entertained a BMW a few years back.  There were so many incentives they were almost giving the darn things away.  I just couldn't do it. :uneasy:  And the japs are out of the question....

Guess I just have to learn how to enjoy being mistreated!! :worried2:
Has anyone seen the new Victory Cruiser? It looks pretty neat with a lot of features. Comes out in 2008. I had a Victory before I bought this bike. It was a great motorcycle with lots of power and never a problem. For the price you get twice the motorcycle of a Harley. I am done with HD. They have treated me like Sh!t.

FYI, I think everyone should submit a complaint to the BBC its easy online. Probably won't do much good but at least it will get their attention.

COMPLAINT ACTIVITY REPORT  Case # 440230     Better Business Bureau of Wisconsin

Consumer Info:   Taylor,         Business Info: Harley Davidson Motor Company Group, Inc.
                                  3700 W. Juneau Ave.
                            Milwaukee, WI  53201
                                  414 343-8900

Location Involved:   (Same as above)

Consumer's Original Complaint :
I purchased a 2006 Screaming Eagle Ultra Classic from Harley-Davidson through AAFES while deployed in a combat zone. Up on completion of my deployment I returned to the USA. I picked up my motorcycle at Black wolf HD in Abingdon, VA. I noticed that a problem existed with the paint on the motorcycle. I notified the dealer of the problem immediately. I have been working with Harley customer service to have the defect paint replaced ever since. They have agree to replace only 3 of the 7 defect parts on the motorcycle. I know of many other people who have purchased the same motorcycle with the same problem who had all of the 7 defect parts replaced by Harley-Davidson.

Consumer's Desired Resolution:
I ask that Harley Davidson stand by their product and replace all defect parts as they did with the other customers.

BBB Processing

12/08/2006   web   BBB   Complaint Received by BBB
12/08/2006   MDS   BBB   Member Complaint Validated by BBB Operator
12/08/2006   Otto   EMAIL   Send Acknowledgement to Consumer
12/08/2006   Otto   EMAIL   Inform MIP Member of Complaint
12/15/2006   WEB   BBB   RECEIVE BUSINESS RESPONSE : Please be advised that the Motor Company conducted an inspection of Mr. Taylor's motorcycle on 11/01/06. The Motor Company replaced the out fairing and the saddlebags as a gesture of customer satisfaction. The other parts that Mr. Taylor had a concern with were found to be within specification and normal in cosmetic appearance. Harley-Davidson is denying Mr. Taylor's request for the 4 parts to be replaced as outlined in this concern.
12/15/2006   MDS   EMAIL   Forward Business response to Consumer
12/18/2006   WEB   BBB   RECEIVED CONSUMER REBUTTAL : (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The parts are not the color they should be. Just as other customers who have the same type and color motorcycle have which were replaced. If I purchased a car and the doors and hood did not match because one was a cloudy milky color I would expect to have it replaced. As for the inspection apparently the inspector did not know what she was doing or may be color blind because it is obvious the paint has a serious flaw. This is the top of the line bike produced by Harley in 2006. Which cost almost $32,000.00. I paid for a custom paint job I would expect it to look good. I know nothing is perfect, but this paint job is far from exceptable on a $32,000.00 motorcycle. I purchased this motorcycle before I saw it because it was ordered while I was deployed. If I could have seen it first their would be no way I would have bought it. I told the dealer when I picked it up I noticed a problem. Harley-Davidson claims they replaced the saddle bags as a "gesture of customer satisfaction". It is no gesture of satisfaction it is replacing defect parts on a motorcycle that is under warranty. I will not be satisfied until the motorcycle looks the way it should.

I had my lower bags rubbed out by the dealership yesterday, actually got rid of the swirl marks, and they look ok, but all that did was make the fingerprints that are under the clearcoat stand out, one bag has at least 7 fingerprints, and the other one has at least 9, some are like overlapped, These are easily seen standing 3 to 15 feet from the bike with the lids Closed. That should fall within their un-acceptable guidelines, but you never know the spin they will try and put on it. Service manager said he would call Rusty at MoCo on tuesday and let him know. No word on my other new-new replacement parts that are on order (front fender, outter fairing , and tank.
2up, so they are still denieing your claim?? You would be the best person for the idea of Channel 5 on your side, or which TV station does that in your area....Irag war vet, gets taken out by MoCo suicide bomber rep. Im defitely going to do what you did with the BBC if they dont get mine right, but they are still saying they will right now. If I were to file a complaint now, thats what they would be told, "Oh we have made every effert to try and make Mr Lara happy, including replacing his parts 2 times even though the factory rep looked at his bike 2 times and found nothing wrong with it", LMAO
Im over a year into this since My first complaint to Oakland HD (Bob Drons) who blew me off, if I hadnt found Nancy and Charlie at San Ramon HD, I'd be in the same boat as you 2-up, have you tried going to a different dealership??

Mike, obviously you reached through the clearcoat (it's your Hero superpower) and deposited those fingerprints just to make it difficult on poor little Harley Davidson, Inc.  You should be ashamed.

Only one way to deal with it. NEVER put another penny in the MOCO pocket. Buy another brand? Why not? Damn shame. This never had to happen. Let's just face the truth... HD doesn't care about about the owners of their "flagship" models. They have our money, we're holding the bag ,,  and guess what it's full of.
I suppose this kind of anger might be hard to understand if you've never had this kind of problem with the MOCO (I TRULY hope those of you who have never experienced it never do). It robs you of the joy of ownership. Personally, I'll never forgive Harley for taking that joy from me.
I need to find a way to distance myself from this. The MOCO could care less how I feel.  :soapbox:
Rant off. We now resume our normal programming.

You do have have to stop being a rider of HD motorcycles, Im not, but Id never buy another new bike from them, and thats too bad, cause I can buy a new one every 2 years and write the whole damn thing off on my buisness, thats ok, Im thinking a company ski boat for advertising purposes, plus to get to those pesky house boats that need repair is in order this next cycle. I would possibly buy a used bike off another private owner someday, MoCo gets squat from a private sale, and You can also boycott any apparel such as MoCo t-shirts etc. Ill always buy after market parts whenever possible. Even if they get my bike right in the end (Which is at best 50/50 right now the way they are going) I will always have a bitter taste in mouth from MoCo, just by the way they treated me. That would only change if they handed me Vern the MoCo reps head on a stick, + My paint job corrected properly.

My dealer called this afternoon to let me know that, lo & behold, all my parts are in (again). I'll go look at them tomorrow. Its supposed to be a sunny day. My fingers are crossed.
