One sure fire way is to run the tips of your fingers over the parts that have the stripes on them...you can feel the edges of the stripes a bit when you do this.  It's not a lot, but you can feel them.  On the old paint process, they put so much clear over the stripes, you could feel no difference.  You'll still have plenty of clear on the paint, but can feel a very slight difference as the clear transitions from the Black Candy to the striped section.  That, and get the parts out in the direct, bright SUN...if they are right, you'll know it immediately.

I was lucky enough to have good paint from the get go, but learned of this "feeling the stripes" here on the site, if I remember correctly, so checked mine out well when I took the bike last June...

LOL!!!!!!!!!!

I had that chitty paint job on my bike also (not the reason I painted her)............ I just thought that was HD Quality..... now I know better... :2vrolijk_21:

BTW, I don't have that problem with my new paint job........... :bananarock:

the original paint, defiantly needed more clear coats...... :coolblue:

I got the bike back yesterday from the shop with all new paints installed  :jalapeno: :cucumber: :jalapeno: :cucumber: :jalapeno: - except the gas tank which is still on order. It looks great!!! I guess a person could be satisfied with the milky color but the good paint is sooo much better I wouldn't have realized until I'd seen it. I'll post some photos real soon. I, too, would like to thank everyone who's been posting on this thread. If it weren't for you and your efforts I'd probably be riding a milky brown & green bike thinking I should have got one of the other colors. I had reservations about this watermelon color at the start but thought, well it does catch one's eye and is a little more on the radical side compared to the other two choices. With the paint being right now (I'm sure the gas tank will eventually be rectified) I am extremely happy with the color choice!

Here are some photos as promised. They don't do the paint justice - it looks good!. I made photos showing before and after. This is the front fairing. The bottom is "before" and I had the saddlebag top next to it for comparison (it was good paint).

Damn nice HW.  Very Good!  I remember my melon looking the same way.  I'm glad it was fixed, but it took alot out of me.  My stomach is still recovering.

Not much activity here on the 2006 paint issue thread... does that mean all the affected owners got their issues resolved? That would be a good thing!

SEUltra, I got a call from Macon H-D and the MoCo is painting up a new set for me.  It should be here in a week or so in Macon.  They finally admitted that they were sending shelf stock to try and get around the issue and would send a brand new freshly painted set.  It's been a long road and my bike has been at the dealer since before Christmas.  I am really ready to get out and ride!

I'm still (patiently) waiting on the gas tank. :juggle2:

Now why would they do that unless the shelf stock was done with the new process? Why jerk people around?
On a different note, I bought a used certified GM 06 Chevy Avalanche and have had it to 2 different dealers for warranty issues and BOTH dealers treated me like family and fixed the problem right the 1st time.  :2vrolijk_21:
No hassles, just friendly "how can I help you" service. Guess what company I'm buying my next vehicle from?

My guess is that it was the only way to legitimately get rid of the problem from an accounting point of view, it has gone on way too long for them to not know they were sending out bad tins.  Often I think manufacturers are driven by an accounting mentality.

On the question of where you're buying your next vehicle, I would hope it is from the "dealer" that is closest to your home providing you the best service product.  IMHO, this keeps your tax dollars in the area in which you live and supports the business doing the best job for you.
