Factory Rep came out today to look at the bike. Rep told the General Manager "you didn't tell me the paint was this bad". Rep said that the paint is "brownish" chocalate milk color and he was 100% that the paint IS BAD. Remember side bags were all ready buffed at factory request. Rep called the factory Teck from the dealer and stated he would be in touch and said the problem will get fixed took pictures and left. Dealer told the rep that he would of never sold this bike if he had found the problem. He is leaving tomorow for thr Dallas HD dealer convention and bring pics with him and will talk to other dealers regarding the paint and is hoping to met with the factory higher ups to discuss the bad paint. As far as I'm concered the Rep works for and represents the MOCO and addmitted that the paint was bad and not "thats the way these bikes look" All non metal parts were painted by Tomahawk in Wisconsin and all metal parts were painted at the HD York factory.

Gator,
I sure hope you documented all this with witnesses, etc, etc. Sounds like someone at MoCo has finally stood up to the plate and admitted that something is foul. Hope things work out for you and you get your bike the way it should be.

One more time with this paint problem for me.  I called my Dealer this afternoon and was told the MOCO Rep came in and looked at my paint.  The Rep said,, that is the way the bikes are suppose to look!!!  Well as I had said before,, the first time my dealer called,, the person they talked to,, said they knew they had problems with the paint,, and they asked them to take my bike to a paint shop and buff some of the clearcoat off,,  which they did,,((only 1 bag)) and it did NOT work,, and  ruined a spot of the paint on the bag they took there.  So I know I have a new bag coming for sure,, and I am hoping when the new bag comes in,,it is the way the paint is suppose to look. Anyhow,,  my Dealer gave me a ref#  so I could call HD's Consumers Affairs  person to file a complaint!!!.  I called,, and the lady was out of her office,, so I called again 30 minutes later,, and talke to one of the agents,, not the head of the Dept.  Well, ,she looked up my  ref# and saw pics that the Rep had taken of my bike today,, and she even said they looked bad.  She told me the head of the dept would get back with me tomorrow so I will be waititng for her call.  I am documenting every call I make there,, and  even gave the girl on the phone this website,, so she could see better pictures of the BAD PAINT some of you guys took and posted.  She put this website on my Complaint form!!  I told her if some of the higher ups would come in here,, and read what  the consumers problems are,,  ~((( US )))~    maybe they could get things fixed,, before they are massed produced and out the door.  I told her they could also read what the consumers would like out of  there products.
So now I will be waiting tomorrow until my call comes in from the head Consumer Affairs Rep!!   My dealer is behind me 100% on this paint problem,  so I am just hoping ~WE~ all can get this problem fixed soon.  Good Luck to the rest of you with this problem,,  and hopefully you will have a better outcome when your Rep looks at  your bikes!!

That too is part of the problem though.  The dealer shouldn't be behind you he or she should be out front.  It's inexcusable that you're having to lead this charge.  That's the dealer's job.  They took your money.  They're the one that made a profit from your purchase.  And they're the one letting you beat down the doors.

Talked to the dealer this morning and they are waiting for a e-mail from Harley to find out where they are to take the bike to have it buffed. Going tomorrow to have the SE aircleaner/pipes and flash installed. Got the flash #34303-06 from this forum. I told the service manager about the flash so I hope they have it when I get there. She says they had problems mapping a Screaming Eagle V-Rod yesterday.

I got a call from the MOCO today about my paint !!!!
I havent spoken to the head of Customer Service yet,,  but the girl I talked to had talked to her about my complaint.  I was told,,,, that ALL the paint on the Crimson / Slate's have the milky look to them!!!   It is,, (((as I had posted before,,  from what my Dealer had told me,,)))   that Milky color ,, because of all the clearcoats put over the paint,, so you cant feel where the pin stripes are put on by hand.  The Company wants the paint to feel smooth, on all the multi-painted parts.
Now what I am wondering is,,, from the POLL TAKEN,, on the above thread of,,,,,,,,,,,,
                   Paint Poll on 2006 FLHTCUSE
there are 11 people who said there is nothing wrong with the paint on their  Crimson / Slate's.  I would like to have 1 or 2 of you send me a PM with your phone ##,, and I would like to give you a call. I know if you dont know what your looking  for,,  you might not see the fault in the paint. I am just trying to get to the bottom of this problem,, and I just got off the phone with my Dealer again,, and the MOCO had called and talked to them again today,, about my bike!!  I have to wait until next week,,  since my Dealer and some of there staff are out to the bike show in Dallas this weekend,,,  to find out more on the progress  of MY  paint issue!!
Good Luck to the rest of you,,  who are working on your paint issues!!

Rep looked at my bike this morning. He agreed that it did not look right to him either. Took pictures himself along with the pictures I took and said he was going to forward to MOCO. Said this would get the process started and he would get back to me. At least he agreed with me for whatever that is worth. Will let you all know when I hear back.

I also ordered the LED spoilers for the saddlebags plus some touch-up paint. I asked the rep if he thought they would send me 2 different colors of the Black Candy Crimson for touch-up.

From usa eagle:
I was told,,,, that ALL the paint on the Crimson / Slate's have the milky look to them!!!   It is,, (((as I had posted before,,  from what my Dealer had told me,,)))   that Milky color ,, because of all the clearcoats put over the paint,, so you cant feel where the pin stripes are put on by hand.  The Company wants the paint to feel smooth, on all the multi-painted parts.

This is BULL still waiting to hear from my area rep. How about the Emerald Green multi color paint loaded with clearcoats so you don't "feel the pin stripes put on by hand". That paint isn't a milky color how come? Spoke to another area dealer who is having a Black Crimson bike delivered early Feb., all ready sold, and invited me to check the paint prior to customer pick up. Hopefully paint is good. We need to find a good painted bike!!!!! My area rep looked at an Enerald Green bike while looking at mine and had same question why does this paint look so good

Gator::::
I talked to my Dealer twice this afternoon. I was told,, I have NEW TINS coming for mine,, which is my  TANK,,,FRONT FENDER,,,FRONT FAIRING,,,both BAGS and LIDS  !!!  The inside of my fairing is ok,, and rear fender ,, plus the lids to the bags were ok,, but there sending the new lids.   I dont know if there doing this for me,, because I allowed my Dealer to take my bag out of house,, and  try to fix the problem that way first ,, or what !?!?!  But I was told,,,when the new pieces arrive,, I can then go and pick out which set I want!!  The NEW set,, or the ones that are on the bike.
My Dealer is hoping that the paint is totally different, then what is on my bike now,,  so we have something to really complain about.  They gave me a 3 week time frame,,  because they know I am leaving for Daytona in March 4th !!
I am hoping the paint is different,, so then I can relay the message here,,  for everyone who is having the same problem as I am know for sure all the bikes are not the same!!    That way,,   the MOCO can not say,, :THAT IS THE WAY THOSE BIKES ARE SUPPOSE TO LOOK:
I guess I will find out in 3 weeks,,,,,,,,,,,

Did they say what they're doing different this time? If they still apply 3 coats of clear, are the NEW tins going to be free of defect?

What the hell is the big deal if you can feel a small raised area in the brushed on stripes? How many people are going to go around rubbing their hands all over paint to feel stripes?!!! If someone was doing that to my bike I'd give 'em a BIG cuff upside the head and a kick in the a$$!!

Well they admitted a problem by covering yours under warranty, now everyone should be getting new sets.

Congratulations USA!! Hope all turns out great!

Thax Grover,,,,,,,,,

I asked the MOCO girl who called today,, if the bikes are still be painted the same way??  She said she had heard nothing different about how they looked.  I had given her (Kate)  this website,, and she said she came in here last night when she got home,, but did not find the right area with the pictures  others had posted of the bad paint.  She is the one who saw my pictures,, taken by the MOCO Rep,, and she even said they look bad. I have been writing everything down as to dates on my phone conversations with the MOCO and the she  ((Kate)) even told me to make sure I document everything.  So if any of you are told to call the MOCO with your Ref#,,  you can ask for Kate,,  since she now knows there is a problem out there with the Crimson / Slate   bikes!!

Today Jan 20, 2006, I took one of my bags to a body shop that my dealer told me to take it to. He said point blank that it would do NO GOOD BUFFING it out.  He told me that it was two different colors END OF STORY.  BUFFING would not change anything, he told me to take it to a color match store where they match and mix paint to get an optical scan done.  What I found out is that the paint on the Lid is one color and the black on the base is another and here is the paint codes that he found on my bag and lid.

SADDLE BAG TOP LID COLOR

            805J            JET BLACK                  82.3
            1002S            RED PEARL                  82.4
            150K            B/C BALANCER            327.6
175K            BINDER                    427.0

SADDLE BAG BOTTOM   (BASE COAT for TRI COAT)

            855J            LIGHT RED                        24.9
            866J            RED VIOLET                        40.4
            806J            HS BLACK                        47.4
            819J            FINE BRIGHT ALUMINUM      50.8
            1002S            RED PEARL                        67.6
            1005S            GOLD PEARL                  71.9
            150K            B/C BALANCER                  276.0
            175K            BINDER                        440.2

SADDLE BAG BOTTOM   (MID COAT for TRI COAT)

            864J            MAGENTA                  6.4
            855J            LIGHT RED                  12.8
            150K            B/C BALANCER            218.2
            175K            BINDER                  423.8

What the guy told me at the paint store is that the reason and the only reason that the bags look milky is the color of the mixture of the paint and NOT THE CLEAR COAT causing the problem.  He also stated that BUFFING would do NO GOOD…………
Thanks
Mike Scott   (Bubba)
