Bubba, that's interesting information for sure.  But, I have to ask you one question:  why were YOU having to take the parts to a shop, instead of the Dealer?  If I fork over 32K for a product, it needs to be right, but if it's not, it's their problem to deal with, not mine.  While I certainly don't blame you for trying to resolve the problem, I'm just curious as to why your dealer isn't doing the leg work.
As this issue develops, it appears there's more than enough evidence to prove the MOCO's at fault, and I'm sure in the end they will be "forced" to make it right, it's just a shame they force us to almost drastic measures to solve a problem that they (MOCO) should bend over backwards to satisfy some of their most elite customers. HD's not alone though. I fought GM about a paint issue a few years back and my sister went thru hell and back with Ford.  In the end both issues were resolved, but it was time consuming and never should have been that difficult to solve in the first place. Today, I still buy GM, and will probably still buy HD, but my Sis won't even sit in a Ford, much less own one.

Well GE the dealer Brian (sales mgr) has been very helpful to me he set up the body shop to get it buffed and he would have also taken my bike for me as well he seems to me that they want to get to the bottom of this as well.  I live 90 miles away from my dealer and I like to know what is going on as to hearing what the MOCO wants me to hear. I have already been there and have done that, Oh the PAINT IS SUPPOSE TO BE THAT WAY REMBER……I know that my bags are painted different and it need to be FIXED end of story.
GE you also are very right when you said that the (MOCO) should bend over backwards to satisfy us as we are THEIR most elite customer and we did buy their most elite CVO product.  You are right and we do not need to forget that WE are the dealerships customer they took out money for that produce and the service should be there after the sale not just when the check clears….I felt that in the beginning but now my dealership as steped up to resolved this.
Bubba.

With the paint codes supplied here from a direct scan of an 06 saddelbag with bad color you 06 guys have an excellent opportuntiy for some important comparison work.  Two other data points should be collected.  Someone should hit up a PPG dealer and try to get paint codes for what it's supposed to be.  Someone who actually has good paint  should also get an optical scan done of their good paint and report the paint codes from those parts.

With all three of those parameters, especially if the intended code supplied by PPG is markedly different from the mix already supplied here, any argument by Harley that it's supposed to be the way should immediately lose any traction.

The pole reads that there's 12 owners of the Crimson/slate that do NOT have any paint issues. Are those owners replying in this folder?
I have NOT read any comments in here about good paint. Are you sure that you're not overlooking the hazing?
If your paint is perfect, would you please post pictures. We know it's alot to ask, but like twolane asked; Could you also get an optical scan done to campare the other paint codes.

This would help out immensely.

Thank you,

Assuming H-D isn't trying to mix their own paint it sure sounds like PPG is letting them down unless, yes unless it's an application issue. I know first hand the problems that can occur from variations in temperature and humidity when doing paint work. Temp and humidity instability can cause tremendous color variability.
As far as color scans, it definitely shows the variances in Bubba's "furniture". The scan technology is best suited to matching however because that technology exceeds the capabilities of PPG to do first class paint mixing.
Have there been any reports of mismatched paint issues with any of the other colors CVO does?

I wonder if you just can't tell on the Autumn Haze because of the lighter color. Just a curious question. :-/

Out riding yesterday and saw an Autumn Haze at stealer about 100 mi from home.  Checked it out real close and the inner and outer fairings were noticeably different.  Did not have my camera or I'd have a pic for ya.

ultrfxr,

There you have it. So pretty much all '06 ultras have a paint issue. It just stands out more on the darker colors >:(

I know (hope) the '05 models are not at issue but I have noticed my FLHTCSE2 has a silver first/base coat on the outer fairing but not on the inner

Could this be a reason why they look different?

I also noticed when dismounting my tank that the clearcoat has been "squeezed" by the fasteners - like it wasn't hard when originally assembled??

BTW I'm just waiting for my wheels to start peeling...

Cheers

Dave

Grover,

Please only count 11 bikes as not having problems with the paint. When I responded that I did not have a problem it seems, it was in the gargage under flourscent light. Even when in the sunlight did not notice a problem. So got out my flashlight for CLOSE inspection. OH H--L, there is a big difference in the colors, and seems to get worse over time. As of now I am dealing with the dealer and MOCO rep. They agreed to replace the saddlebags and outer fairing.
I do not know how to recind my vote. But I do have paint issues. Sorry for any mis represntations. Also, maybe some of the other 11 are experiencing problems, didn't know at the time of voting and are not saying.

mav, you should be able to change your vote now.  There will be a small icon in the lower right hand corner of the poll that says, "Remove Vote."  Click on it, then re-vote the correct response.

Brian,
You may want to do the same thing with this thread (remove vote thingy). As I was reading up on this I wondered if anybody had voted then later find out they had problems.
