2up, Please relax a bit, they ARE working on a solution for us. Calling those at Customer Un-Service will just make you madder. I too hate the paint on my bike, when someone walks up and says "Wow, nice paint job, is that a Screamin' Eagle? "It is, no wonder it looks so good, Wow, the paint doesn't match too well". It turns your stomach. This wasn't even at a bike run, just outside a sandwinch shop. Your Service manager can do nothing at this point, no fix available from the MOCO. When the fix is in you'll know it. Wrongway

Since it went unsaid, Hey '06 Blk Crimson - Beautiful looking paint job on that Chief!!!
BaronStump and 06BlkCrimson, you both have gorgeous looking Chiefs there.  Sorry it went unsaid.  BStump - that is an absolutely great picture.  I can feel you smiling right at me.  Enjoy the bike and the ride.  That is just great.   :D

I will take your advice and give it a little longer. I hope they come up with something soon. I don't want to be without a bike this spring or summer waiting on them to fix the problerm.

Twolane, your response on Feb 3 to the paint problems was magnificent! So far it seems to me that no one in the H-D corporate world wants to put their name next to the cost of fixing this problem or to be associated with it. Eventually it should work out, but lets face it, these units should not have left their barn. I feel bad for the loyalists who have taken delivery of an inferior product, that for the most part, has a $6k paint job. I have an order in for the last crimson bike that my dealer gets in. Do I need it? No...do I still want it? Not so sure anymore. Keep the faith...

I was over at the factory in York, PA yesterday afternoon- didn't take a tour or anything, I was just in the area and figured I'd stop by the gift shop- let me tell ya, I wasn't impressed with the gift shop at all, it was small and didn't have a lot to offer.  Anyway, they have a Watermelon on display.... and the paint didn't match.  A display model... at the factory!!!!!!!  Sick!  Boy am I glad I bought a Haze.  I feel really bad for you guys that have the other two paint schemes.  Sorry you gotta deal with all this garbage.

OK, My first day here, and already have more Information then I bargained for...I also have the Black Crimson/Black Crimson#2formula problem. After reading this whole thread, I am assumming that I am basicially screwed here, and that Harley is so arrogant that they dont care that they have unhappy customers. Wheres Erin Brokovich when you need her???!!!!!

Seriously, has anyone gotten anywhere with a solution with harley from here???? and maybe its just me, but I actually like the color of the Milky clearcoat vs the lid covers. But eitherway, would like a Matching color as I expected to recieve when I spent my kid's college money for this TOP OF THE LINE CUSTOM PAINTED CVO. I wonder if I went and bought a New car somewhere and then found out the next day that my hood, and trunk lid where this far off in color to the rest of the car, what would happen??

Mike,

As long as Harley doesn't start selling cars, the car thing would be no problem.  In most cases the dealer wouldn't even have to get approval to fix it.  In fact, if it was my plant that had built the car, we would (and have in the past) send someone with new parts to replace the defective ones.

It appears the off-color situation on the '06 'CUSE is basically the result of the MoCo's p-poor paint process.  Until they figure out how to apply the paint properly, it looks like any replacement parts will have a very good chance of being just as bad as the originals.  Sometime in the near future they will either have to come up with a fix, or face a class-action law suit from all the owners.  IMHO, everyone with this problem needs to get it documented with the dealer, the MoCo, and perhaps their state consumer protection agency, to protect their rights just in case the MoCo tries to dodge the whole thing.

Got a call yesterday from Tech Services. Was told that they recieved my pictures from the Rep. She said that they agreed that there is a problem, but have not come up with a solution yet. Said nothing about buffing. She said that as soon as they came up with solution, that they would be in contact with the Dealer and myself. I am documenting names and times of everything and hoping that they follow through.

100% of my painted parts were taken off yesterday and sent back to the MoCo.
No time frame given, I did not really ask....why make someone lie?

UP-DATE..I was told all my multi-color parts are being replaced. With exactly what I'll just have to wait and see.

One thing that gets me, is I found out that a person from this site (I wont mention names without his permission) walked into the dealership where I bought my bike and told them that the Bike I eventually bought , had the color problem, so they KNEW about it before they sold it, I picked this bike apart, I went back 6 times looking at it, siting on it, making my wife sit on it agaisnt her will (Hehe) before buying it. In the showroom lighting, it looked fine, the first time sitting in my driveway, it did not. I really feel the dealership had to disclose this information to me before selling the bike. Thank God HD does not sell houses, they would be sued out of buisness for not disclosing a 'potential' problem that they full well knew about.

I had the same issue on my FXDWG3 when it came to replacement, they fight you all the way because Harley dicks with the dealer over what is a "custom" issue versus an actual paint issue. Back then it was the inconsistancy of the gold leaf being brushed on.

"It's a custom not a piece of art!", so what, it can have a custom job that is correct.

Obviously they didn't write the check.

Got a call from the dealer yesterday. They were waiting for Harley to tell them where or how the bike is to be buffed out. They said they have heard nothing but would let me know as soon as they do. Hopefully the Moco sent some one to paint school and they are waiting for him to get back. I think the milky color looks like sh!t. I think it will only get worse with time. The paint dosent even feel right. Feels kind of sticky when you rub a dry towel across it after the bike is washed.

I agree about the 'feel' of the paint, I also noticed that the wax I am using is streaking, cant seem to quite get it all off the tank, and lower bags. No problem using the same exact wax on my  other scooter, also a harley...btw, the wax is harleys own brand, bought at the dealership.

Took posession 12-23. No problems with Black Candy Crimson and Charcoal, but I did have a 6 week delay in delivery. No one on the streets is talking about paint problems and I live in Factory Town York, PA. [smiley=banana.gif]

I should mention that I spoke with John Selensky from HD Tech Support for about 35 minutes a bit ago. He was nice, very understanding, admits there is obviously a problem that needs to be addresed. He explained that it is at the top now, what if anything that may or may not be done is still a question. He pretty much blamed it on the paint shop, thats does me a lot of good as I have bought no new Screaming Eagles from a Paint Shop recently to my knowledge.

He did ask me to send pictures of Paint, and he said that there are 'others' with the same complaint, (I assume he means from members here). He asked what I thought may be a solution to rectify this problem for me, I told him that I bought a brand new spankin top of the line HD, I only expected HD to stand to stand behind their Highly respected good name.....which from what I am hearing, is a little tarnished at the moment. I dont want a buffed out bike, a re-painted bike, or the bike the way it is now, I told him that there are 3 ways that I will be a satsified customer....1. Give me my Money back and take the bike, 2. Give me enough Money to have the bike painted the way I want by whom I want (I figured $6k should be about right), and then I gave him another option, I agreed to accept all new factory painted parts (Not RE-painted) to be replaced under warranty by the dealership, but only if they replace the Black Crimson with the Haze color.
This seems to be a possible solution in my opinion, and maybe the first time it has been suggested?, I know the Haze has paint issue also, but I could live with that color over the black...plus MY GOD!, I wish I had waited now that I saw one in person Sunday, Its a nice looking bike. Anyway, John seemed more open to this then the other options We talked about.

Like everyone else, I will take the pics, send them to him, and see what happens. I also will try and find everyone else in my area that bought one of these, and try and get them on board. John told me about 4000 FLTCSE are going to be sold this year, I figure 1/3rd of them are Black CRimson, thats a lot more than the 20 something guys that are here complaining. Im down with class action suit if anyone else is, if thats what it takes, if this does not get resolved, I at least am going to small claims court with both HD and The dealership who knew of the problem pre sale of this scooter..... In Calif., I thinks its $7500 maximum award per suit I believe. There will be 2 suits coming. I can paint it like I want then.

Has anyone else sent the pictures to John Selensky as of yet??, There are some very good ones on this thread alone. Anyone needing the email addy, let me know. Im Also very happy to hear that some that are getting their bikes now, arent having to deal with this...that tells me that they fixed the problem...oh wait!, they told me there was no problem for the last 5 weeks.....so why the change now?, Im confused, lol. talk about speaking out of both sides of your mouth HD.
