I apologize if this is old news, but I heard from my dealer that he received a bulletin from the MOCO regarding the paint issue.  He did not discuss any specifics of the bulletin.

I'm sure HarleyHog is watching and will be able to shed some light on any official communication that is out there

Cheers

Well here goes, I took my beloved Black into the dealer yesterday Feb 28, 2006 for an appointment with the area Representative from Harley His name is Keith Priest out of Jackson Tenn. to look at my Paint problems.  He said that the problem was TOO MANY CLEAR COATS…. and that buffing the clear coat off would correct the problem. I asked him how many blacks he has seen that had problems with the paint and he said all of them in fact all three colors has the same paint problem issue and that’s the way its is supposed to be.  I told him that I bought the bike off of the brochure like everyone else did and the photos did not show that difference of paint.  He said that the Prototype paint was probably different that the mass production paint. So I said well I guess they just screwed up and he said that is the way it is and suppose to be. The BASE coat was applied by Tomahawk and the graphics and pin striping ECT was done by Caliper. the Tomahawk base cote has three coats of clear while the Caliper has 17 to 18 coats of clear to make it smooth.  That is where the problem comes in TOO MANY CLEAR COATS, the way he explain it to me is just like looking through 17 or 18 plates of glass and the way to correct it is to buff the clear coat off or remove the plates of glass.

He basically gave me TWO OPTONS
Option one   BUFF THE CLEAR COAT DOWN. That will fix the problem and you will be happy or Option two Give me my money back. WOW wait that long for the bike to come in and like they know it’s a crappy paint job but oh well if you don’t want it there is plenty of people standing in line that does crappy paint and all.

I also asked him about the paint that will be on the 07’s and he said who know even if there is going to be an 07ultra but if there is probably not painted like the 06 process, so looks like to me that they have maybe learn from there mistakes.

My main concern is if I have the bike buffed what happens later on if something happens to the paint will the warranty kick in or does it end in the two-year period no more responsibility for Harley? What about the extended warranty?  Why can’t Harley just paint it like the Brochure?

I love this bike; I like everything about it BUT the paint.
I just would like for the MOCO to say you know we made a mistake and thank you for your patience with us while we correct this problem. Now as Bill Engvall says….. THAT WOULD BE AWSOME, IT ANT GONNA HAPPEN,  BUT THAT WOULD BE AWSOME!

Love should be an absolute Mike.  Gotta be hard to love the bike; except for the butt ugly paint job and the terrible attitude from the mftr that goes along with it.  Just one man's opinion of course, but given that you really only know two things for sure:

1) From the already practiced experience of others the "buff it out" suggestion is not a solution

2) You can't know there will be any other solution

Given those two things as the only foundation to analyze from I'd take all my money back so fast that area rep suffered whiplash from making the offer.  Then after I had it in hand I'd offer him the opportunity to keep a hundred dollar bill for the company; if he let me shove it up his ass.

Hey Bubba, Keep up the good fight. I also love my Black! I have not heard from my dealer yet. You have a losing fight with the brochure argument because all companies have disclaimers ie "not responsible for variations etc" We need the 10%(black candy) on this forum who voted they had no problems with paint to step forward and post pics that show no difference. That would nullify MoCo argument "that's the they it is supposed to look".

Since they are reluctant to post pictures makes you wonder if they ("posters") where the MoCo themselves? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

WAIT !  That was frigging brilliant.  All you 06 owners just got the advertising slogan and graphic you need to represent your problem and band together behind.

                   Got Milk?
  2006 Screamin' Eagle Ultra Classic!
               YOU BET I DO !!

Tshirts proudly worn at rallies; especially at HOG sites.  The graphic on the back side should be one of those round red circles with a diagonal line through on traffic signs (the symbol for "no" in no left turn sign, for example).  Except now rather than the diagonal red line being over a traffic action it's placed over a glass of milk.  Tag line under it would be would be:

FLHTCUSE, Got Milk!!
Want Milk?  N-F-W!!

I agree with Twolanes statement 100%. [/highlight]
I always expected all the colors to have same problem, but some would be more drastic than others. If I just purchased one of these bikes, there's no doubt in my mind I'd want my money back. What do you tell an interested buyer down the road when you go to sell it?

Can you say d-e-p-r-e-c-i-a-t-i-o-n!

Also, you can't take the rep Keith Preist's word as though it's the final word from the MoCo. Every rep varies greatly from area to area. But if he meant it about refunding in full. Every CUSE owner should take him up on the offer! That would definatley open the MoCo's eyes, then the dealerships can try to explain the miles on the bikes' when they try to re-sell.
The MoCo is on the "Highway to Hell" if they keep producing this crap and treating their customers like a bunch of pushovers. The word of mouth will eventually catch up to those MoFoCo's.

I wish you all the best on this very upsetting subject...

DON'T GIVE IN or SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS THAN PERFECT

Why is it you guys come up with all these GREAT Ideals after I have already talked to the rep, Man I like the t-shirt ideal that is BRILLANT!  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  Wakko you and twolane need to patent that ideal before the MOCO puts their hands on it.  I can see it now they will be people standing in line just to buy that shirt…..  [smiley=oops.gif]  what the Hell am I thinking if the MOCO does it they would probably screw up the milky color on the T-Shirt up too…..

Bubba,

Apparently Keith Preist- Field rep has been coached by the MOCO. He looked at my bike back at the end of January. He stated then that the paint was not right, (with plently of witnesses) and told the dealer to order new parts. They have not arrived yet, and now I don't know if they ever will. So, he has been coached on what to say.
I have to try and stand calm, and not say what I really mean, but I am a little tired of the MOCO crap. Right now, I think if they want the bike, they can have it and shove it where the sun don't shine. Give me my money, I will go buy me a BMW.
