I'm not so sure I can place any faith in the warranty system of these motorcycles anymore.  Mine is still under FULL FACTORY WARRANTY until AUG 2007.  My warranty claim for my paint..............DENIED.
To the gentleman HD Area Representative who looked at my bike at Foster's HD in Tuscumbia, AL today.............which is a very overcast day..................I have the following I wish to convey to you:
I know who you are.  I know your name.  I have your phone number.  I know you have this website bookmarked in your favorites.  That said, then you already know about the paint problems on these motorcycles.  Since I have bought one, dealt with these issues, and read the stories of others who have the same issues, I challenge you to offer good explanation........acceptable to me....(and you cannot) as to how you can deny my claim when so many others have been resolved to the complete satisfaction of the owners.  I'm no more particular about my motorcycle than they are.  Please...........enlighten me.  Tell me why my motorcycle is any different than any other CUSE detailed on this website..........or anywhere else.  Fix my motorcycle.
I could be a very vengeful, angry man.  I could display your name and phone number for all to see...............and I'd bet you'd receive countless phone calls from every member of this group within 5 minutes of this post.  But I'm not that vengeful angry man.  I simply want you to do your job and fix my motorcycle.
You visited Foster's HD on an overcast day.  I must tell you that I question your claim of 18 years of employment with the world's greatest motor company.  I also must question if you have actually READ the concerns of the members of this group.  I must also question your eyesight.  Even still, you can SEE the defect in the paint under flourescent light.  How can you not?  Though it is more pronounced in sunlight, as depicted below, it is still very noticable with flourescent light.  Yet you tell me you see nothing wrong with my motorcycle.  The problem is, you aren't the one who paid $32K for it, nor are you the one who has to ride it, nor are you the one who will have to listen to words such as "your paint is jacked up" when you go to trade it in.  I am.  And I will have to deal with those things.  Fix my motorcycle.
I'd just like to say that I am happy for those who have had success when getting their paint problems fixed.  Apparently Harley Davidson Motor Company is not going to fix mine.  I'm stuck with it.  I'm not a man of idle words..........as actions speak much louder.  Pardon me while I THROW UP.
You have no idea how literally SICK I am that a company..............to whom I've shown 34 years of loyalty, whose bar and shield logo is tattooed on my left forearm and right shoulder, who I grew up with during two generations before me, who has been a staple of my life all my life....................can actually do this.  No threats.  I'm not that way.  Just understand that you have destroyed the very foundation of my admiration for something I hold very near and dear to my heart.............something with which I grew up.  I love Harley Davidson.  I always will...................and this is how I'm treated for my loyalty.
Sir..............have a GREAT day.

Bagger, have you started a complaint with the factory hotline folks like others have suggested?

Seems the squeeky wheel theory is the only one working here.  Just keep grinding, they have to fix it.

Yup!  #434040.   I posted #908 about it.  They've already replaced both of my lower saddlebags and front fender.  The right saddlebag is good to go.  It is beautiful.  You can feel the lines in the stripes.  The left is still jacked up.  You cannot feel the lines in the stripes.  They put an old process bag on the left.................which obviously came off of someone else's bike, and put a new process bag on the right.  So it was jacked up before, but now it really looks like doodoo.  The new front fender is also old process.  I've also written two letters to HD customer service.  I sent the first one, and received a message on my home phone, which didn't explain anything about their plans to resolve my paint issue.  All they did was address the issue I had with a belligerent mechanic.  I sent the second one............express mail............on Monday 23 Oct 2006, and asked them to speed up the process of getting a rep to Foster's.  They did that............................and then denied my claim.
My thoughts of resolution are numerous.  I'm not sure what to do.  If you guys believe in the "strength in numbers" theory, then I'd sure appreciate your help, and happily buy a beer for everyone on this list if I can get this issue resolved.  Take a look at the picture above.  My paint is clearly jacked up..............and that is just the saddlebag.  Going to get my scooter tomorrow.

No question from the picture.

What is the dealer doing, sitting on the sideline?

Sure as hell is frustrating when things get handled this way, but you aren't the first that has needed multiple bags to resolve it.  Not sure of next step beyond getting the dealer to step up and get it taken care of but if they were going to I guess they'd have done that when the rep showed up.

Another frustrating thing...........What is the dealer doing?  You guessed it.  Sitting on the sideline.  My bike has been there for almost two weeks.  They said they would go to work for me.  They agreed my paint was clearly jacked up.  I am so fed up and sick of this that I'm tempted...............................not gonna go there.  Does any dealer out there have the testicular fortitude to help the customer?  Does any area rep out there actually care about the customer and not worry about a reduction in his Christmas bonus because he did just that?  Jeeeeez!

Bagger,
I've resized your photo for better viewing. This is absolute bull chit!!!! This guy has a boss, start climbing the ladder. You've got plenty of proof (from members here that have had there paint replaced) that there is a problem. Hang tough, keep your chin up, and don't give up.

Yeah, but it's just funny money anyway .. by the time all the paperwork has passed back & forth the dealer hasn't lost a cent. Can't be too bad, otherwise these dealers would have folded up their tents and gone home a long time ago. ;)

Well SE - that's exactly what's happening in UK

There has been the biggest turnover in dealerships closing and transferring since I can remember

Looks like the get-rich-quick guys are buggin' out and the in-it-for-the-long-haul & take-care-of-the-customer guys are hanging in

That's good in one way I guess - but it paints a bad picture of the overall dealership scenario and dents the credibility of the product somewhat

But

Time will tell - it usually does

Cheers

Oh man..............this is getting better by the minute................all "post hijacking" aside.  After reading d00d's post, I just had to call this guy and ask him to give me his supervisor's name.  He did.  I have it.  And I'll be calling him tomorrow.  And I don't really care how long I have to wait "On Hold."  That is the beauty of a handsfree phone.............and other work to do.  Anyway.  I got his super's name.  So........I ask him to go online and look at the pic of my bike in post #979.  He does..............and he AGREES that in that picture...........THE PAINT IS JACKED UP.  Then he tells me.....and he is right.......that he doesn't know when the picture was taken.  It could have been before the bags were swapped the first time..........yadayadayada.  Whatever.  What's the point?  WHY WOULD I LIE?  I just want my bike fixed.  His reply was the same as it was earlier this afternoon:  "We're just going to have to disagree on this one."  After I explain to him that this website has 66 pages of owners with this same paint problem, he replies with "Unfortunately there are plenty of people who would rather rub on their bikes and keep them shiney than ride them.  We make a pretty good bike, but unfortunately we don't do everything right."  Now he's attacking me.  34 years riding HD..............I grew up on them........started on a  Topper..........I must have a million miles on my butt............and he tells me that I spend more time rubbing and shining than riding???????????  Come ride with me.........Pal.  We'll see who starts whining first.  When you go from Huntsville, AL to New Orleans, LA.......eat at Crawfords........turn around and go back to Huntsville, AL..........in one day..............just to have lunch............then come talk to me like that.  When you go from Huntsville, AL to Clarksville, TN to Newport News, VA............work the next day, then ride to Enterprise, AL and back to Huntsville, AL the next day...............then come talk to me about riding.  Until you've ridden with me............and kept up with me............put your money where your mouth is...............PAL!
