I got off the subject. I still think getting everyone together here, with the same problem and documenting same, will have som impact with the MoCo. Hoist!

Unfortunately, it's deeper than that with a lot of people. People bleed orange and black. It's tattooed on their skin and imbedded in their lives. It's more than just a brand name or about just any old motorcycle. It's about lifestyles built around that particular motorcycle. Changing brands won't help though.

Hoist,
You're right about people's passion for the HD motorcycle. Each person has a threshold limit for what they are willing to endure. It makes no sense to me to allow something (ie: paint issue, peeling chrome, etc.) to consume you to the point where it kills your passion for what you enjoy. I suppose it could be classified as a lesson learned. Too bad... doesn't have to be this way.
To help put it in perspective, while these issues are aggravating and may even cost us some lost sleep, we're not staring down the wrong end of a gun barrel in Iraq.

I couldn't agree more. At least we have the right to live free to ride our machines. We also get to fight back against the company that made them to get what we paid for! At least we have choices. Hoist!

My bad, I think Maggie Valley was before my time, I did a search, this thread isn't close to being done yet, so it has the potential to be maybe the most read, or longest, or close to it, or not,. whichever, it is still pretty sad.

I never thought I say this but, Im at the point now, where when I am not riding the bike, I feel I could live without it, it has caused me an awful lot of grief.....then I make the mistake of going somewhere on it. But that only lasts as long as the ride, once its back in the garage, that sinking feeling starts again as I look at it, Im sure even those who are not going thru this, still can understand how some of us feel. I also, pretty much won the $$ I paid for this in a few poker tournaments that I came close to winning, so I cant even imagine how I'd feel, if I had plunked down hard earned money, and or where making monthly payments on one. Its still 35k or more anyway you slice it.

Im going to go get estimates from a few painters I know, and see how much it will cost to get this done right. The people MoCo is sub-contracting this paint thru, arent coming close. Maybe MoCo will foot the bill if its reasonable.??

It's called diminished value ... both psychologically and physically. The disappointment of the bike not meeting your expectations tied to the seemingly futile struggle of trying to make it right. You're growing tired of the fight and you're not alone.
I've had the same feelings and I hate that some piss ants have the ability to make me feel that way. Let's stick together on this and remember we are not alone.  [smiley=sauer005.gif] [smiley=sauer055.gif]

I thought.......and am still thinking.........about doing just this very thing.  I won't do it anytime soon, and I am hoping and praying that it will be a moot point after this second go-around with new paint.  But the thought crosses my mind each time I step into my garage and see that scooter.  I love the melon.........when it is right.........but besides my 2002 Luxury Blue Ultra, the melon is the only scoot I've owned which isn't black.  So I go off on these wild dream scapes.  Black with silver flake!  WOW!  Now that would look good.......until I think about how I'm going to fill the green in the derby and timer covers as well as the tank emblems.  May yet do it.  I'm keeping this scooter.  I didn't happen across the money to get it.  I worked my backside off to be able to afford it......and I still felt the expenditure.  So it means alot to me......more than most scoots I've owned.
Hopefully........for the foreseeable future......my scooter will be the beautiful melon it is supposed to be.  If not, look for me on America's highways on a black with silver flake 06 CUSE.  :)

That's a great outlook. These CVO's are keepers. The way they come is a starting point. Nobody keeps it stock anyway. It's unfortunate that for the $$$ these bikes cost, you have to deal with that kind of finish and the MoCo's reluctance to make it right. But people paint their bikes all the time. I have a friend that does a different flame job every year. If you get to keep a really great bike, that's key. The bike is irreplaceable, not the paint! Hoist!

What you describe is part of the problem that befalls us though Hoist.  If we can't switch products we can't really fight back.  At least not in any way that truly matters to HDI.

So long as product goes out the factory doors everything else is ancillary.  That "everthing" includes us as HDI is quite capable of separating revenue from the source of that revenue; because they belive it to be guaranteed.  We are not cheap dates.  But we are incredibly incredibly easy.

Unlike some of the brethren I don't have walls festooned with logo gear and company logos inked on my body.  I LOVE the machines.  Have for a long long long time.  One of the few things I enjoy more, however, is simplicity and lack of hassle.  I also despise it when someone else forces me to have to become an asshole due to their inattention or incompetence.  The hassles the 06 owners have dealt with would be for me The Perfect Storm of dissatisfaction to send me in to the saddle of another company.

Beside switching bikes I'd have a couple of leather jackets that would look funny on a Goldwing and a stupid number of t-shirts that would immediately become yard and shop shirts.  But I'd still ride.  I may not enjoy the comraderie of the Wingers and BMW riders in their silly shorts and matching shirts as much.  But that's alright.  I rode primarily alone for a long long time.  It's about the riding.  And what is seen and how I feel when I'm doing it.  What I'm on is important.  But it's secondary to what's inside me while I'm doing it.

Until Harley understands that such a willingness truly exists in their client cadre they won't change their SOP though.  We've seen it often enough and long enough to know it just won't happen.
My sentiments are almost identical.  I rode various Japanese brands for 25 years and enjoyed the hell out of each one (and never returned one to the dealer for a warranty issue, I might add).  I didn't care what anyone else thought about my choice of bike; I normally rode alone just for the pure satisfaction of being on two wheels, no real destination required.  I still ride alone; to me riding is not a social event, it is a melding of man, machine, and nature.

I've always been partial to what I call a "standard" style motorcycle, and when the Japanese brands abandoned that style for the crotch rockets and early Harley clones, I actually stopped riding for a few years.  When I couldn't stand not riding any longer, I started looking around for a bike that fit my needs.  It turned out that that bike was a Harley Super Glide Sport.  "Standard" styling, good handling, carb, belt drive, total simplicity compared to my earlier high tech rides.  While that bike had its quirks and warts like most Harleys, I loved it and kept it for six years (and I wish I had kept it period).  I go out and spend over twice as much for Harley's top-of-the-line model, and from day one have nothing but problems.  It definitely puts a bad taste in your mouth when the MoCo knowingly puts out inferior quality, including what I consider to be safety related driveability and handling issues, and doesn't care enough about the customer to make it right or even acknowledge the problems.  Unfortunately, the Japanese no longer make a touring bike I would consider, since they turned the original GW into a plastic, fully enclosed, air bagged, two wheeled automobile.  So for now, I'm stuck with a company for which I have very little respect and even less trust.  I'll just keep fixing what is fixable, ignoring what isn't, and hoping that someone else eventually offers a reliable, quality bike in my preferred style.

I still haven't heard from the MOCO since the factory Rep. looked at my bike about 2 weeks ago. Has anyone here even spoken to a lawyer about the issue we are having? If I don't get some good answers when I finally do get through to customer support(have left 3 messages). I am going to start dialing lawyers and I will definetly ask about class action suits. My situation has been going on for a year next month. The MOCO has had more than enough time to give me a straight answer. I was told in May I would have all new parts in June. Only 3 Parts have arrived and that was all that was approved? Win or loose I am getting ready to use every avenue I can think of to get the MOCO's serious attention.  >:( [smiley=soapbox.gif]

Great news Guys, I had so much fun this last 11 months with my paint issue, that I get to Do it ALL over again.....Got a message from John on my voice mail, Basiciallly saying that when I pre inspected the parts before installation, I therefore accepted them as OK. lets get this str8, I NEVER told The Service Manager that I accepted them, I said, from what I can see they look ok, I trust that if they are not right, then it will be corrected", Period. I only took out 1 bag and set it next to mine, opened up the fairing, and looked at a 5 inch square of unwrapped paint. and 1 side cover. All this was done on a rainy day under flourasant lite. With the flashlite, you can see the flakes in the fairing and front fender, but there are not very many at all, in the sunlight, you cant see any flake, almost pitch black. John is right, its my fault, I should of had my attorney with me, and the proper papers stating that once they are on the bike, IF THEY are NOT RIGHT THEN....wtf, I feel scammed, I should of waited till the sun was out when I picked it up, and then said 'no', then I could of left my bike there again, as if the countles hours I have wasted on this so far mean anything, this has cost me nothing but grief, and money, it takes a lot of time away form my earning a living,

He said he'd send the rep to the dealership to say if they are 'acceptable' or not, the same Rep who told Drons that there is nothing wrong with it 11 months ago with the original brown paint. Thats great if he is keeping the bike, but hes not...I am. , You said, "Mike, if you are not happy with the new parts, we will do what it takes to make it right".

please tell me this is what a brand new factory paint job looks like after a complete detailing BY A HD DEALERSHIP and then 3 more coats of wax?, see picture below.....

Mike,
I can't believe this chit. I will be sure to check my parts well if I ever get any.  I just got off the phone with the MOCO. I am working with a new John now. I don't know what happened to John Selensky. when you get a chance could you send a clearer picture of the purple striped outer fairing?

Key selling point from salesman at Oakland HD while my wife is standing there......." (She keeps saying this to piss me off today)..."and the reason you pay so much more of a premium for this bike, its a custom bike, with special paint, and a lot of things other bikes dont come with...it will hold its re-sale value much better than a non-CVO".
