I still believe somehow the paint goes milky over time. I had all my tins replaced in October and it looked great sun or shade. A few week ago I had it out in the sun and the front fairing and one bag lower looked milky compaired to the rest.

Man I sure hope it isn't true....I have looked at so many bikes and so many parts I think I can spot a bad one from 20 paces.  But if one changed a little at a time, it would be easy to miss.

My new parts look so good its like I have a brand new bike.  Only one problem, still down waiting for a new rear cylinder (porosity).  I feel like Hoist waiting for my bike to come in all over again.  I hated it last time, and this time is worse!

Good Luck on the paint guys.  Good parts are out there.  At least when new!!! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

You know what is interesting, the Haze guys haven't been as vocal or replaced as many tins, but I have looked at a number of them and they have just as much milk/fog in them when you get them in the light.  Especially easy to tell between the inner and outer faring in direct sunlight or with the Binford 5 million Candle Power Portable Sun hand held light.

Rog...I've noticed that too, but it's really hard to tell on the Haze's.  But their paint is the same process...too much clearcoat.

I've not noticed mine "changing" and it's been nearly 8 months since I picked it up.  As has been mentioned before, if it's the new painting process, you can feel a small difference when running your fingers over the stipes...that is a sure way to tell if the new process has been used on the parts you get.

Update to my update of my update!! [smiley=dizzy.gif]

In the last episode on Dec 9th 2006 I told you all that the third set of tins arrived and the fairing was great.  You could feel the grahics through the clear coat but the color was "Spot On" and matched the inner fairing.  The other parts, Gas Tank, Saddle Bag Lowers and Front Fender were still wrapped up in the shipping containers so I left it the bike assuming the others were the same great color.  The dealer called that week telling me the rest of the new stuff "Sucked" and he would not put them on the bike.  He called the factory and asked for new parts.  As of Monday 1/8/07 the dealer still had not heard back from the factory.  The service manager and I agreed that it was time for another round of calls to Juneau Ave.  Well it must have worked because I got a call from the factory rep while he was at the dealer and he agreed that the "New" (third set) were not good.  He told me he would order a new tank, fender and lower saddle bags as soon as he hung up the phone.  Less than an hour later I got a call from the factory confirming that the paint was ordered and it would take 4-6 weeks because they would be painting a brand new set.  Keep your fingers crossed that they get the right guy to paint these new parts!  I must say the factory rep was all about getting this right "No matter what" and apologized for the delay.  Good to hear but wish he had been around earlier.  He is new to this area and replaced the previous rep.  Glad to have him.  Also I can't say enough about the folks at Harley Davidson of Macon GA.  Absolutley top shelf and stand behind their customers.  Worth the 120 miles I ride to get there.

Got a call from a guy named Phillip from the Moco today. We talked about the 2 parts I rejected and he said they would have to see if the parts rejected fell within their paint guidelines to determine if they could be sent back as a warranty claim. Huh??? Aren't these NEW parts directly out of the box from the Moco???  What if I had bought and paid for them new as something for a bike I was building? Would the same logic apply?? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]
I decided to stop by my dealer on the way home and asked what was up with the 2 rejected parts. I was told the fender would be replaced under warranty because it qualifies for a class B cosmetic guideline replacement as the defect can be seen when installed on the bike. However.... (you know where this is going)......
I was told the defective paint on the saddlebag does not qualify as a warranty item because (get this) the defect cannot be seen when the part is installed!   [smiley=zwtf.gif]
The damn thing has paint bleeds in 3 places where the tape wasn't sealed tightly against the bag when it was masked off!!!!!! [smiley=furious3.gif] [smiley=sauer005.gif] [smiley=sauer005.gif] [smiley=sauer005.gif] [smiley=sauer005.gif]
Soooooooo............... I have to call "customer service" again to point out to them that even the original bag didn't have this defect and that their logic of "if you can't see it, it's all good" is AFU.
Man, this pisses me off. Why does everything have to be a fight with these people?? Really makes me want to plunk down $35,000 again real soon .... NOT!!!  [smiley=soapbox.gif]

An incredible degree of untenable nonsense.  It is too obvious that there is no concerted effort or assigned source of responsibility with the authority to actually deal with and solve the 06 paint issues on a company wide level.  You guys are going to keep getting dicked around one at time, with solutions coming hit and miss and the lack of solution coming equally hit and miss.  It'll stay that way until a dozen or 15 of you ride up to Milwaukee together someday and sit outside some suit's office until he sees you.  Then when he gives you merely pacifying answers at the the end of the day you do the same thing all over again at his boss's office; with some media in tow if you can convince them.

So far you're only being an annoyance to the area reps.  They are paid to keep the annoyances away from the people that don't wish to be bothered (and to do so at that fine line between inciting unrest and spending more money than necessary).  Unless you wish to keep being occasionally individually fixed but more commonly individually but continually strung along and inconvenienced somewhere sometime you're going to have to change your tactics.  You'll need to annoy someone who both doesn't have the patience to put up with it and has the authority to spend the money to fix it.

I've spoken with Phillip before.  Real lethargic sounding guy.............like he OD'd on good ol' #714 before he came to work...........anyway, he has called me before and told me that I was stuck with what I have.  That was after the first replacement.  Didn't really seem to give a chit that the paint was jacked up.  That's when all the crap started with the HD rep at Foster's in Tuscumbia.  Anyway, glad the rep and I were able to move beyond all that and get to a point at which we could put forth effort to make my bike right.  I just hope all that work and waiting pays off.  Two more parts, and we'll know.  Hey Terry, if you happen to read this, will you meet me at Rider's to be a second set of objective eyes for my new paint when the last two parts arrive?  I'd sure appreciate it.

Its just too bad that you have to worry if MoCo is pulling a con on you or not?. Either you have to fight the dealership, The Rep, or the MoCo itself, the big run around. Why should the customer have to pre inspect anything ?, MoCo hopeing you just accept crap and go away??  or maybe you miss a blemish ?, also, MoCo says that each case is treated as a seperate case. ...lets see how long that story works in a lawsuit. Same problem , yet they have tried smoke and mirrors to get out of fixing as many as possible. Ive been given an ultimatum of either eating the parts that are on the bike, or eating the new set coming wether they are f_ucked up or not.......not going to fly in California....Ive been to the dealership(s) way more than 3 times in the first year of ownership for this Paint Problem, we now quailify for Lemon Law. they better get it right this time, Thats my ultimatum to you MoCo.

Al, I think it takes the Binford 6000 batteries, but I bought the rechargeable one as I never have the right batteries in the refrigerator when I need them. ::)
