The build date has a lot to do with it.  Mine was painted originally in February....BAD.  A fellow that lives near here had a May job and his bike was perfect from day one.  It is what gave me hope back then.

I'm sure there was a transition period but it was definitely after Jan 06.

I THINK it was between April and May of 2006..........however...........the first time my bags were replaced, the left was painted in May, and the right was painted in June.  The left was hazy and the stripes couldn't be felt.  Additionally, it was obvious it was a buffed out take-off from someone else's bike since it was streaky and it had the velcro tape inside to hold the liners in place.  The two bags I have now are new with June and Nov paint dates.  All other striped parts are Oct and Nov paint dates.

All my parts were painted in May 06 and the bike was delivered to me the last few days of May.  Paint was good on my bike from day 1.

Got a call from San Ramon, the service manager said he got moco to warranty the new bags with fingerprints too. so all new set of paint on the way still. He also said, that the strike will delay everything.

Mike, glad to hear you got the new bags handled.  I sent my tank back for runs a week or so before the strike and the replacement came back the Friday before the strike ended.

Near as I can tell it was there during the strike.  They said it was to be repainted, but I must have gotten a tank of the shelf.  Maybe a repaint, but you can't tell whether it started as a bare tin or was stripped and redone.  Either way it came back quickly and in great shape with the new process.

Everything is "number one" now.  Good luck.

I got the bike back yesterday from the shop with all new paints installed  :jalapeno: :cucumber: :jalapeno: :cucumber: :jalapeno: - except the gas tank which is still on order. It looks great!!! I guess a person could be satisfied with the milky color but the good paint is sooo much better I wouldn't have realized until I'd seen it. I'll post some photos real soon. I, too, would like to thank everyone who's been posting on this thread. If it weren't for you and your efforts I'd probably be riding a milky brown & green bike thinking I should have got one of the other colors. I had reservations about this watermelon color at the start but thought, well it does catch one's eye and is a little more on the radical side compared to the other two choices. With the paint being right now (I'm sure the gas tank will eventually be rectified) I am extremely happy with the color choice!

For those that might still be trying to get good paint - this was the second time everything had been replaced and I don't know how many peices were rejected by the dealer before good parts were finally received. I don't know why we have to be put through such an ordeal. Severe lack of quality control or reluctance to pay the price of making it right - I don't know. But, hang in there. They can eventually get it right and, I won't say it's worth the wait, but I will say I am now very excited about how much better my paint looks. I've got over 23,000 miles and flawless paint!

Mike, I'm not sure that's at all what it sounds like.   If the head is being removed from such rarified environs it's only because customer's such as yourself are standing behind their ass kicking and screaming and pulling as hard as you can to get it out of there.

For too many of you this has not been a solution but a trial.  Of wills.  Of patience.  Of fortitude that should never have had to have been exercised.

The MoCo should get very few cudos for "finally" making something right when many of you have been working with and literally fighting with them for more than year to force them to do as they should have to begin with.  Doing it "right" from the start was never their intention.

Instead you've suffered a year compounded for too many by not just the company's and its representatives' unwillingness to simply stand up and make it right; but their willing malfeasance and obfuscation in attempts to get by on the cheap (even when they were willing to do something).  They've sent parts obviously previously returned by others.  They've denied obviously legitimate warranty and support claims.  And they've done all this assuming or hoping that just because they deigned to respond to mere customers that those customers would shiver in gratitude and say "oh thank you great God Harley, may I spend some more."

Twolanerider, you've hit the nail on the head. There have been times through this ordeal where I actually perceived myself as the "nitpicking a**hole customer who's never satisfied". I truely do not like getting bent out of shape. I do not like being made into the one who has to keep "bitching". Though they treat me well, when I walk into the shop the service guys probably think "Oh chit, he's here again." That's my perception, anyway. I hate the feeling this has given me.

Guess I'll eventually get past it nevertheless.

HW, you paid good money to get a superior motorcycle and that's what you deserve. You have nothing to get over, they do! I'm glad they finally got it right. I guess they're hoping people will settle for second best. Well they under estimated the power of this great site! We won't settle for second best!!! ;) Hoist! 8)

I understand what you're saying HW.  It's never pleasant when someone else by their own actions or inactions forces you to have to be an asshole.  That's it's entirely their fault and their doing, and that finally choosing to be so might in the end be effective, doesn't make it any more enjoyable.
