Twolanerider, you've hit the nail on the head. There have been times through this ordeal where I actually perceived myself as the "nitpicking a**hole customer who's never satisfied". I truely do not like getting bent out of shape. I do not like being made into the one who has to keep "bitching". Though they treat me well, when I walk into the shop the service guys probably think "Oh chit, he's here again." That's my perception, anyway. I hate the feeling this has given me.

Guess I'll eventually get past it nevertheless.

HW,
From one melon owner to another, I'm happy to hear your paint is being made right.  As others have said.......don't worry about what the dealership boneheads think.  You can bet your next paycheck they could care less what you think.  Being firmly assertive without being aggressive is the best way to fix what is broke.  Who gives a chit if they cringe when you walk through the door?  That is what you are paying them to do.  Make 'em earn their keep.  They've made you earn your's..............simply by paying a premium price for a first class motorcycle.  Having done that, it is imperative you receive that for which you have paid.  If they think your being picky, that is their problem..............not your's.

Bagger, thanks, I agree with you. But don't get me wrong, the dealership has been extremely helpful throughout the whole thing. I probably don't explain it very well but the point I'm trying to make is that in pursuing this I have, through my own perception, developed a sense of being the bad guy/prick. I know I deserve what I paid for. The Moco, whether through negligence, poor quality control, just plain disorganization or whether they're doing it on purpose to save money has changed me from being a careful nice customer  into feeling like a distrusting beligerent won't give up unsatisfied customer :sauer005: :wall:. They should not force us to go down such a chitty road.

Dear Paint Problem folk:

I have a quality problem now! All the new painted parts (Tank, saddlebags, front fender, outer fairing) have come in.
I'm scheduled to go to the dealer tomorrow, and inspect the parts. I want to be sure (as does the service department) that the replacement parts are free from the paint flaw.
How can I be sure?
I will be looking at the new parts in relation to the ones on the bike, etc. , Looking at them in sunlight, but is there a "sure fire" way to ensure that I'm not having parts put on that are n.g.?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
ICMC Geezer

One sure fire way is to run the tips of your fingers over the parts that have the stripes on them...you can feel the edges of the stripes a bit when you do this.  It's not a lot, but you can feel them.  On the old paint process, they put so much clear over the stripes, you could feel no difference.  You'll still have plenty of clear on the paint, but can feel a very slight difference as the clear transitions from the Black Candy to the striped section.  That, and get the parts out in the direct, bright SUN...if they are right, you'll know it immediately.

I was lucky enough to have good paint from the get go, but learned of this "feeling the stripes" here on the site, if I remember correctly, so checked mine out well when I took the bike last June...

Terry has you covered.  The stripes tell the story.  One other sure fire way, which I believe has not been discussed here, is to wait until night time.  Put the bike in your unlit garage, and then shine a bright flashlight on the surfaces where striped and non-striped parts meet.  If there is ANY difference between the two, it will be readily apparent.  I did this both before and after my paint swap.  I cannot tell the difference between any painted parts on my bike now, but before the swap, the striped parts had the color of hot cocoa mix, whereas the non-striped parts were DARK.  HTH.

Mine could be a bit cleaner but the sun came out and shining through the showroom windows is hitting the new tins and man does it look good.  Pictures can't show it but I'll post anyway, definitely Crimson in the sun. :2vrolijk_21:
