I hate to hear of so many paint problems. On the other hand, my only problem seems to be the bug guts I keep finding all over my fairing!  8-)
I find that if you get 'em off the same day they are collected and before they get 'hard', it's much easier on the paint.   :P spyder

I wish they would just fix the problem and not give us the run around..  >:(

Well I just got off the phone with my dealer and he is getting the same run around from the Motor Company.  "It is the number of coats of clear so you won't feel the graphics. If we replace the bags or faring it will be with the same paint and have the same problem."  Horse Squeeze!!

My dealer is not smoking what they are rolling and has put in a call to the local service rep to get some answers.  I don't know dick about paint, clear coat or the process for applying it but I know this is not right!   [smiley=furious3.gif]

The '04 & '05's have goldleaf on the tank along with other H.D. models. No cloudy paint issues there and you can barely feel the goldleaf!! What about their Radical paint sets? They always look good.
The MoCo has a BIG issue on their hands!! And they're pissing off alot of loyal customers while they scratch their asses in figuring out how to make it good! Why can't they just come clean and announce they will have a recall as soon as they fix the problem.
From dealer to dealer, rep to rep, most of the remarks are different. The CEO's sit back with their mouth shut. (they know there's a problem) While most of the owners try to figure it out on their own time.

What a shame that most of you long time loyal customers are being betrayed by the company you supported with pride over the years!!

I'm furious also [smiley=sauer005.gif]

Hey you MoFoCo's at the MoCo this ones from me to you [smiley=sauer021.gif]

We're the buyers of the most expensive, exclusive, powerful, envied bikes the MOCO offer's, and this is the treatment we get! I take this kind of thing to heart, and I have been sick in the gut for weeks now. The wife and I are loyal and love to ride, she get's mad if I ride to work, because she can't go with me. We love the bikes, have 3 at this time, but with the treatment we have gotten on the CUSE I am having some second thoughts. I don't need this! All we want is the bike to look the way we expected when we ordered it in July. I believe FRAUD is what we got.  Wrongway

Just thinking out loud here - are the graphics painted on or are they decals (tape stripes)?  Reason I ask is that I've seen some custom paint jobs locally that had either tank nameplate decals or tape stripes embedded in the clearcoat, and there is a definite 3-D effect and ridge due to the thickness of the decal.  The only way to make something like that feel flat and smooth would be multiple coats of clear, fully cured and sanded between each coat.  ???????????

Just thinking out loud also, but what is the logic in having two seperate contractors doing a paint job?  Even if one of them is HD. Did the SEEGS and other SE bikes have their paint done by different painters?  If I was going to have a custom paint job done on my bike or vehicle, I certainly wouldn't be looking for two vendors to do it.  What were they thinking, or smoking?

I always thought the CVO bikes were painted and put together in York, and they were the best HD had to offer, after this paint BS and the run around with the factory, if someone was to ask me, I would say save your money and buy a stock bike. Dont get me wrong I love my bike, but when you spend this kind of money you should not have to settle for anything less then the >:( best......

Thats what we paid for............ [smiley=brood.gif]

I dont understand this 12 coat thing, I have 2 custom bikes that have 10 coats of clear and 3 coats of color, NONE of this cloudy BS on either of them, I talked with eagle art who painted both bikes and was told it made NO SENSE to them, the more clear the deeper the paint should look, [highlight]They did say that each layer must be dry and buffed color sanded before the next layer goes on.....[/highlight]

I am posting this pic just to show what 10 coats should look like. I dont buy this BS, I think they did something wrong while they painted the parts or used bad paint.    End of Story,

Just fix it the right way....... >:(
06 Blk Crimson,

Your painter is absolutely correct.  It also makes a difference what type of clear they are using.  A lacquer or acrylic is easier to work with than a urethane, for instance.  I have had some experience with multiple coats of clear urethane on cars (ran paint dept for my employer for about 5 years, we applied multiple clear coats on cars destined for the auto shows), and I can tell you that if the paint isn't fully cured and sanded, the subsequent coats will appear cloudy.  Also, if they solvent wash between coats (typical solvent is 50% naptha / 50% water, some use 50% alcohol / 50% water) they can induce clouding if the first coat isn't fully cured.  In other words, I agree that the number of coats of clear, if done properly, should not cause this problem.

I couldn't agree with you more.  We should have been given the VIP treatment with our bikes, especially considering how much we spent on these "Custom" machines. I am still waiting for the MOCO to resolve my paint problems... >:(

Spiderman, I wish it was the photo but it is not.  I took that picture out in the sun while washing the bike.  The difference inside under fluorescent light is not that apparent and the reason I ever left the dealer with the bike.  I picked up the bike on an overcast day and did not notice the faring difference but as soon as I got home I noticed the difference and called the dealer.  That was in September and here we are in Feburary and it is still not fixed.  My dealer is on my side and is waiting for the area rep to come by and see the pictures.  I can not figure why they don't have email so we can get the info to him but at this point nothing surprises me.   [smiley=confused5.gif]

MOCO rep looked at my bike and took pictures almost 2 weeks ago. Checked with dealer yesterday. No word. Sure seems like problems are getting ignored. I for one, will not be easing up any time soon. >:(
