2009 road glide seat ( has this happened to anyone else)
« on: July 05, 2009, 10:16:13 PM »

my uncle and I both have the SE road glide 2009, has anyone else with this bike noticed that as you put the miles in the seat that it begins to pull away from the tank dash board and you can now see the two wires and the bracket.  My bike does not have as many miles but it is starting not to return to its normal position and my uncle s stays down now.

I feel like Harley changed the frame and forgot to compensate with the seat, it should be about 2-3 inches longer in the front to compensate for breaking in,  for the money this should not happen.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Its Happened to almost everybody else,  Your replacement seat If you get one, I think HD may have quit issueing replacements, will only solve the problem for a couple of days, they did not upgrade the seats.

The seat pan is non existant on these CVO seats. Lepera uses steel seat pans, Corbin uses a fiberglass or similar seat pan, both are rigid with adequate padding

HD replaced mine under warranty but I have noticed that mine keeps pulling back a little further the more I ride it.

yep, won't get any better unless you get rid of that HD stock seat, or live with it.

Just talked with my service manager. He called HD on Friday and they claim they have tightened up the specs on the SERG seats with their seat vendor and that we should give one a try, which I'll do. He said if I am still not happy, he'll credit me with what HD will give him to fix the problem towards an aftermarket seat.

I just put a Saddlemen's Explorer seat with backrest for an 09 SERG on Ebay, that I only had on my bike for about 200 miles.  Starting price is only $375 and no reserve, if  you're interested in a seat like that.  I just decided to go to a two piece seat instead.

I'm on my recall seat as well, and the replacement is only slightly better than the original.  It still gaps when I sit on it, but much less.  I have had it modified by Mean City Cycles in NC and the mod was just delivered to my house this morning.  I'll try to remember to post if their mod solves that issue, but I doubt it will.  Mine only looks bad whe I'm sitting on it, so no one but me will notice and it hasn't been a comfort issue.  Besides, most of us don't keep the stock seat any way - so just modify or replace it any way.

Steep,
What is the name of your dealer.  I want my dealer to call them to find out who at HD they contacted.  Since my bike was built after the "fix", my claim was rejected because I have, in HD customer service's words "the acceptable fix to the acknowledged "gap" problem".  This was just two weeks ago.
Thanks, Dan

Dan,
You can tell them to call Tommy at Dallas H-D, in service.  972.270.5513.  He resolved mine even after MoCo said my original seat was the corrected version.

Again though, the "new" modified seat isn't much better.  Take your OEM seat off and hold it, and you may decide its not worth the effort to fight MoCo.  For a $30K bike, you would think the seat would weigh more than the measley 5 lbs or so that it does.
