SERG Smart Alarm problems
« on: July 06, 2009, 03:39:01 PM »

Has anyone witnessed any problems with there factory alarm?

I went on a trip to visit my dad over the 4th of July holiday and had a problem with mine. I went to get the bike out of the garage and when I pushed the bike about 25 feet the alarm went off. The fob was in the glove box while sitting in the garage and while pushing bike out. I then ran to the truck get the spare fob (that was only about 20 feet away) and the spare fob didn't do anything for it. The alarm would sound for about thirty seconds stop for about ten seconds and then repeat. It did this until I disconnected the battery. I then searched the forum and disarmed the alarm via the turn signal buttons and the PIN number. I then took bike for a ride and everything seemed OK after that. I just got back from trip and bike still seems good.

Thanks for any suggestions.

That's alarming - no pun intended.

Perhaps the glove box is not the right place for the fob , perhaps the glove box isolated the fob and the fob could not get a connection .
I have to hold the fob very near ( max 2 meter = 6.5 feet ) at the bike that there is no alarm . Normal .

It has always worked in there before. When I also went to get the spare it was with me and right next to bike and it still would not disarm. I just went out to the garage without the FOB and set the alarm off and went and got the FOB and as soon as I got within 6-8 feet from bike the alarm stopped.

Maybe there was some kind of weird interference going on or something. The alarm would not stop going off until I disconnected the battery and that is with both FOB's next to the bike. I then reconnected the battery after ten minutes and did the manual disarm with turn signal switches and is working normal again I hope.

I recommend everyone get familiar with how to disarm it manually if you need to. Makes you feel the idiot running around trying to figure out how to turn it off. Then again if the alarm is going off I am not sure a manual disarm would shut it off. Anyone have any input on that? Maybe you could pull the MAXI-fuse under the left side cover.

maybe there was a thunderstorm in your area and caused this problem , like un the other thread a thunderstorm was the reason because a garage door opener was not working .

Some rambling thoughts triggered by this thread:

This sort of thing is one of the reasons I prefer the pushbutton fob, where I and I alone control whether the system is armed or not.  IMHO, this new system was a bad idea poorly implemented.

Funny how so many people have resorted to stowing the fob on the bike rather than carrying it in their pocket.  Wonder just how secure that security system is with the fob under the seat or in the glove box?  :confused5:

Also seems strange that auto's have been doing OK with smart fobs and keyless systems, but once again H-D borrows some technology and finds a way to make it much less than it was.  Is there any piece of automotive technology they've "borrowed" that they didn't screw up?

A manual disarm using the procedure from the owner's manual will shut the alarm off even if it is sounding.  This leads to a piece of advice:  If you have not reset the disarm code to your own personal sequence, you really should do so.  Every motorcycle thief knows the factory set sequence is 1-1-1-1-1.

Harley should put that statement on a ginormous sticker plastered on the gas tank.

I too am having inexplicable intermittent problems with the alarm system on my 09 SEUC.  Same kind of thing.  At random times the alarm activates for no apparent reason.  Twice it has done it while I was sitting on the bike after just having shut it down.  I have replaced the key fob battery, but no joy.  I think HD has been having problems with this system as the tech I spoke with about it at the dealer a few weeks ago seemed familiar with the complaint.  Mine is going in this week to see if they can troubleshoot it.

Mine came from the dealer with a different code then the 11111. I still need to change to something I want though. I did ride the bike to work today with no problems but it now does a single chirp when I turn the key on. It has never did that before. When I shut down it gives the standard two chirps.
