@Skippy:

look up this issue.

  Thanks Kraut.   I think I read that earlier and had forgot it already.  That's the problem with getting old :(

Kraut and Skippy, thanks for the notes on the swingarm and Kraut thanks for the link.  I guess I'm doubly blessed as my wheel wasn't in the recall and I've never seen any rust from my swingarm yet - but only have 3k miles on her so far.  These posts are the only place I've even heard of that issue.  As always, great info on this site!

  I don't think Jerry's post was all that bad and when two people join the site the same day and post responses backing up a dealer, it sure seems like someone asked them to to that.  I also think Johnny's post was quite a bit worse than Jerry's and after everyone reads it, what will it gain?
   What is there that you would disagree with about my post?  Don't you think that in this situation a dealer should immediately take a bike in and pull the wheel and check it, just for the peace of mind it would give the customer?  Remember these bikes costs over $30,000. Don't you think they could easily contact the MOCO and get all the info they needed to determine what to do?  My dealer already had all the info-I don't know why yours didn't.  Mine just said he didn't have time to do the inspection for quite a while, which I think is wrong.  If necessary a dealer should keep an employee overtime to check a wheel on a matter such as this
I'm not trying to defend or be critical of anyones post. Just didn't want my future posts judged, based on that assumption. BTW, I still have not rec'd anything from the MOCO as of this morning about my SERG.

That's nice to hear for a change GH!  I would be curious to know the code on the inside of the replacement wheel, to see if the rest of us can ride easier.  Code on mine is M1 or M2.  If you can find out, I'd be grateful.

I think someone may have already posted this:

Subject: Safety Recall Campaign 0140

Dear Harley-Davidson Dealer:

Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists on certain model year 2009 FLTRSE3 model motorcycles manufactured October 3, 2008 through May 5, 2009 and shipped before May 14, 2009, as well as certain “Blade” rear wheel accessory kits manufactured November 3, 2008 through May 5, 2009 for installation on 2009 Touring family motorcycles. Some “Blade” rear wheels, P/N 40788-09, (also part of the “Blade” rear wheel kit P/N 42091-09) manufactured during this timeframe underwent a secondary heat treatment process. Wheels that underwent this secondary process may have a crack. If a crack is present, it could result in wheel failure during use, possibly leading to a crash, which could result in injury or death of the rider.

We have voluntarily declared this a defect related to motor vehicle safety (Campaign 0140) to allow us to formally recall all affected motorcycles and accessory wheel kits. The remedy is to remove the rear wheel and tire and inspect the manufacturer’s code on the inside of the wheel, in the “drop center” area of the wheel. Wheels with the suspect “R1” or “R2” code will be replaced with a wheel provided in the recall repair kit. Wheels that do not have the suspect code will be re-installed on the motorcycle. A service bulletin outlining the repair and credit procedure will follow within ten days. Based on the schedule our supplier has provided we expect to have wheel replacement recall repair kits available on or before the week of July 20, 2009. Wave shipments will not be conducted because the kit quantities made available will match the quantity of 125 suspect wheels shipped world-wide. Please reference the Service Bulletin for a detailed description of the defect.

Rocky Mountain HD checked mine this morning.  No R1 or R2 in the wheel.  They called the MoCo with the entire number/letter combination stamped inside the wheel just to verify mine was good.  They were informed my wheel was a good one.  I rode it back home this evening and will be in Sturgis on the 30th as planned.

Going in tomorrow for the wheel recall. Also have a very sticky throttle to get cleared up. Checked the swing arm for water tonight but was dry. Only been wet once for about an hour coming bach from the Dragon. On 2nd seat and it is worse than the first one. I have heard their is a third attempt at getting it right. Anybody get a seat that doesn't have the gap yet. (Factory Stock)

My bike was on the list, but my wheel was ok. Had them mount a new tire while they had it apart.
