Here she is and I love her
« on: July 20, 2009, 11:02:21 AM »

After riding only Softail bikes for the last 17 years, I had finally decided on getting something more comfortable. The problem was I had no idea what I wanted since I knew nothing about the Touring family. So I started my studies and ended up here by accident back in January. Since all my previous bikes were heavily modified in both cosmetics and performance, I knew I needed something other than stock/standard but couldn't decide on buying CVO or building my own from the MOCO catalog. After lots of late night searches on this site, you guys convinced my that the SERG was the only way to go. Man am I glad you did. I brought the new bike home in April and started plans for my mods. Once again, you guys helped me do it faster and cheaper.
So here she is. We have clocked in about 3400 miles and I have not stopped smiling since mile 1.

Hi Steve,

Glad the SERG worked for you.  "She" looks great!  Tell us more about your mods if you get a chance.  Ride safe.

Thanks Greg and congrats on the calendar! Here is the list:

Chopped tour pak with Mustang backrest
Heavy breather intake and SE medallion
super tuner
Rinehart slip ons (still not sure I love these)
Hawg Wired 120w amp (awesome)
Hawg Wired speakers (awesome)
Dakota hidden antena (not impressive IMO)
Wild One 14" Chubby Apes and lots of crap to make them work
Klock Werks 12' (love the look, hate the function)
Paul Yaffe engine guard delete brace
Rumble Collection passenger footboards and Kuryakyn retractable passenger pegs (got all the part numbers here, dealer had no clue. Thanks.)

I also purchased the standard and Tallboy Sundowner seats as well as the Rally Runner low profile seat

Up next:
Yaffe license plate mount
non cvo head pipe with Jet Hot Coating
Different windshield (CB, windvest, clearview or KW 16"??)
Fancy, chrome tour pak hinge covers

I am on the wheel recall list and have an appointment on Thursday. I will post the outcome. I also have paint chipping/flaking from my starter. A new chrome one should fix that. Anyone else have this problem? No other issues yet.

My one and only dyno tune produced 90.17 HP and 107.48 torque. Once I kill the cat, should get a little better and then I am probably done in the engine mod dept for now.
I am attaching another pic with her all dressed up for my BSR.

Didn't think I would like the apes but gotta admit, they grow on ya. Beautiful scoot! You've found out what I learned here as well. These guys sure can help you spend money but they save you nearly as much as you spend by saving you from doing stoopid stuff!

I get mixed reviews on the apes. I love them for 2 reasons:

1) I am 6'3" and actually had to hunch over to reach the stock bars, it was very uncomfortable.
2) It's different

When I have the low profile seat and no BSR stuff on, I really dig the look. I also like the way they make the bike feel in the handling dept.

Wow, I am 6'3" also. and feel a little hunched too.  Is there a seat that helps out one way or the other?  What seat is in your pictures?  I had the tall boy on the RK custom, it was like a couch on wheels, but was tough to look at.

desant89,

The seat in the first post is an HD Rallyrunner. I love it when riding solo. It moves me down and back making for a more comfortable ride. However, I have not ridden this seat more than 250 miles in one clip. I recently did a 500 mile interstate run and I am not sure how well the backside would have held up with the Rallyrunner. I was using the Tallboy for that trip. For around town, several of my Road Glide pals are running HD Sidekicks. This seat also pushes you back and down. Once again, not much back support and no passenger comfort. If your riding solo and not going too far away, both help with the height issue.

Scuba Steve, those are great mods.  What's the best seat for BSR that you've found?  I sent my stock to be modified by Mean City Cycles in NC and she likes it, but now I'm having the seat issues with the gap between seat and console so I may look at another seat.  Love the mod by Mean City and would recommend them, but it isn't their fault MoCo messed up on the size of the stock seat.

A really comfortable seat is the  HD signature solo with backrest and for the BSR the passenger pillon also is very comfortable , we like it very much and pushes you up about 1" . ( better knee angle for tall riders )

sem-bunda,

When I ordered the bike, I also ordered 3 seats from HD plus the stock one.  For my BSR I got the Sundowner touring seat and the Sundowner Tallboy. In short order we figured out that the Tallboy puts me too far back and cramps us up. So I now just use that for long solo rides that require some back support. Therefore, the only seat option for the wife has been the standard Sundowner. We did a ride a few weekends ago that was 180 miles each way and she liked the seat. That is the longest she has ridden with me.
I have ran Corbin's on most of my Softails and we both loved those but my SERG experience is limited to HD since that is what the dealer was pushin and I was caught up in the buying frenzy.

I've been trying to find the part numbers for the rumble collection passenger floorboards, I'd appreciate it if you'd post them.
