Fuelpak & air intake for Vance & Hines slip on's
« on: July 20, 2009, 11:04:58 AM »

I have a 2009 Ultra Classic, and I just purchased a set of Vance & Hines basic slip on's.  I am looking for input on what Fuelpak, and air intake I should go with. I have heard some negative things about the Vance & Hines Fuelpak. Anybody???  Thanks!  Joe

I am on a trip, also riding my '09 Ultra.

To answer your question, we may need more info from you, such as:
How far do you plan to go with mods to your bike?
How comfortable are you with making changes to your ecm?
Do you plan to dyno the bike?
What do you hope to accomplish with whatever changes you make? More power? Louder sound? Less heat? More "bling"?
You will find plenty of advice here on what individuals like about THEIR setup.
If you post your goals, we can cut through the general advice, and zero in on specifics.
I hope this helps you in your quest a little!
Regards.

Thanks Hogmike, I don't plan on making any more mods, and I am not planning on having it Dyno tuned I simply want the bike to sound good and perform well too.  As far as the ECM, I was under the impression that the fuel pak comes with complete instructions, however I don't have any experience with them.  Thanks!   Joe

I had the fuel pak on my 06 with no issues so I went ahead and got it for my 09 that was were I made the mistake.

I am not going to get to involved with my explanation, but I will say I had a ton of pinging (spark knock) whatever the experts want to call it.
I was very displeased with the fuel pak and the set up that you see below, so I changed to the SERT.
I am getting a Dyno on the 1st of Aug.

If you are looking for performance and the best your bike can provide for you. Then read some of the posts and make a decision. Different people want different things.

I do not do mods to my engine, normally I let it Breath and Blow. This time I need to tune it (Dyno) this engine runs much hotter then the 103. And the decision I had to make was keep the Fuel Pak or change to something different.

I tossed the Fuel Pak and explained my frustration to my dealership (service manager) on why the hell they were promoting a product that did not perform well on the 110's

These are my opinions so don't shoot me.

With just the V&H mufflers and an air kit the FuelPak will probably work just fine.  The FuelPak is very easy to install and attaches to the ECM, it doesn't change the ECM.  However, a PowerCommander would give you more tuning options and if you ever decide to get it dyno tuned, with the PC you could do that.  The PC is about the same price as the FuelPak and a more proven tuning device.  Order one from FuelMoto and they will map it to your bike and the mods you have made.  I'd go with the PC.

As for an air kit you can go with either the HD Screamin Eagle Stage 1 or a Ness Big Sucker Stage 1.  Both very easy to install.  I prefer the Big Sucker.

Good luck.

I went with V&H power duals to get rid of the CAT, Full Sac 2.0 baffles, stock SERG aircleaner.. I went with
the V&H fuel Pak and have been very happy with the results. Just went 3,000 mile trip and the bike performed
very well. Not even one hic-up. It is running cool, good gas milage, etc. ( This is my 09 SERG)
On my 08 bike (103) I had the PC111 and had it dynoed three times and it still would cough once in awhile.
Every one has their own choice but the fuelpak has worked for me...

I know this may not fully apply as i have just bought a used 07 SEUC w/3k mi. fitted with V&H big shots w/standard (loud) baffles, K&N air and Fuelpak. I touched the fuelpak for the first time yesterday. Eazy Peazy! I got the instructions online as well as "The settings" recomended for my config. (There were a couple of settings that did not match what prev owner had)
It really was ABC123 to set up.
Advice i have is to really pay attention to how your bike acts BEFORE & AFTER installation in case you should need to contact V&H tech to see if there are any additional things to address. The nice think about New Stock pipes would be that you most likely do not have any exhaust leaks that would be mistaken for any deceleration pops that you may develop during mods.

Just my 2c!

Thanks Hogdog, I went with the Dyno Jet Power commander, and screamin eagle stage 1 air cleaner.  The bike runs, and sounds awesome!   Joeymaq

good choice. i had rush slip ons on a 07 heritage with a v and h fuelpak and it would often get close to 300 deg. i thought the motor was gonna melt. it sounded good because of the rush but the shop machanic said that the vance and hines fuelpak isnt as good as the power commander or the sert. i just bought a sert for my serg yesterday got a dyno set up for aug 19. gl to you.

SWEET SOUND AND LOOKS GOOD.

I picked up my bike from the dealer today
* Monster Ovals
* Fuel Pak

2009 SEUC

Took it for a 75 mile ride - highway, sweepers and a few twisties for the fun of it.

Did I say SWEET SOUND AND LOOKS GOOD.  (I will post up pics soon) Does not interfere with the radio listening!

I will keep my eye on the heat issue!
