fyi on I-90 road conditions/construction to sturgis
« on: July 24, 2009, 09:08:10 AM »

for 20-30 miles west of mitchell, traffic is 2-way in the east bound lane. pavement conditions are good. if the wind is from the north, dust will be an issue.

there are 2 detours on the west-bound lane for bridge deck repair. you'll be detoured to the off-on ramps around the construction. north/south traffic has stop signs. (at least as i saw it from the east-bound lane)

massive construction west of rapid city. 2 way traffic in the east-bound lane. pavement conditions are horrible. traffic is running fast. be careful here.

small project on the east-bound lane at sturgis. the east-bound entrance to I-90 closed is closed on the west side of town.

be careful when crossing any bridge deck/overpass on I-90. there will be a strip of blacktop before the expansion joint connecting the road to the deck. this filler strip will be 6" wide and sometimes 6-8" tall. worse when the temps are hot. it's a big bang in a car and will get you air on a motorcycle. the better place to ride is in the wheel tracks. better but not best.

t shirt vendors are everywhere in sturgis...

42 and 44 are nice roads. 212/14 north of 90 are nice also.
