Relocate Tour Pack....UPDATE..12/05
« on: November 25, 2005, 08:17:36 PM »

I've adjusted the Chopped Pac as far back as it can go on the detachable mount, yet would still like a little more.

Is there a kit that goes maybe an inch or so beyond what it adjusts to..??

Thanks..

phattey,

I haven't used one, but Kuryakyn sells a relocation kit  http://www.kuryakyn.com/products.asp?bn=harley&ci=2656   You would probably want to call and make sure this applies to the chopped pak, since the description doesn't really go into detail.  Take a look at the instructions (separate link on referenced web page) to see if you think this would work.  Also, there is another thread on the "05 tour pak" with some other ideas.   http://flhrsei.org/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?num=1126414543/0

Alrighty....here's an update...

I ordered and installed the relocation kit made by George Anderson. It's the one in the previous pic. All I had to do to get it to work on the detachable pac was change out four 2.5 inch bolts for four 2.25 inch bolts.

Let me tell you...this thing is GREAT..!! It allows me to move the pac back 1.25 or 2.5 inches rearward. I installed it in about 15 minutes and used the 2.5 setting. Wendy and I then went out for a 200 mile run...She's crazy happy now...

She's got plenty of room between her and my backrest with full leathers and chaps now...

Some folks are concerned that it moves too much weight back too far and may affect handling. I didnt' really notice anything different. I did a lot of very slow left and right "tight" slow turns with no problems. Then we found a couple of our favorite higher speed roads, and again...no issues.

I'll get some pics later in the week. O yeah....It also adds an inch of height to the pac due to the rails on the kit. That was a blessing also, because it provides more back support. A king pac may be too high, but for the chopped pac, this thing is great.

I've got his name and number if anyone's interested. I'm not affiliated with him other than sharing a great product for my fellow CVO cousins.

If reasonable $'s wise, I'd like to give it a try, do hear some occasional complaints from naviguesstimator that it's a bit cramped with leathers on , etc. Maybe set up a group buy if there's enough interest ?  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Kuryakyn's set up doesn't work with the detachable mount as I recall, so this may be a decent solution.

He charges 85.00 for this and pays for shipping. Based on it being less than the Kuryakyn, I had to try it. And I'm glad I did.

His instructions are for non-detachable hardware, thus I need to writeup the changes I did to ensure it worked and pass those to George. I called him tonight and he was happy to hear it worked on detachable hardware. He hadn't tried it yet...

Harry - Yup...that's his name and number...

George Anderson 309.762.6291...

He makes other cool stuff too that I'll try as well.

[smiley=oops.gif]  103tHunDer, You're right.  OK Phattey, give Twolanerider the web address for the Cool Stuff.  Then he can write us up a report of what is cool, what is not cool, and how to put it on our bikes.

On top of that, how are the rest of us going to get good used parts at his yard sale/swap meet? Sooner or later he's going to get something better, or not have the hots for something he's bought, we then get it at a reduced price, and it's already been field tested.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Hmmm...he has no website...he's just a cool retired ol' guy in a cold state that loves Harleys and fiddlin' with things...

The cool stuff is VERY limited.... :)

He has a oil dip stick that you can actually pull out without all the twisting and turning. I have that coming...

He also makes passenger adjustable footpegs that attach to the passenger floorboards (I think other manufacturers have this too) yet his price is better..

Also he makes spacers that move the driver floorboards outbound an inch (again others have this but his quality and prices are really great).

So that's it...I guess I was a little too enthusiastic when I said other cool stuff...it's not much in quanity but it's good in quality and pricing...
