When you guys say "leaks" around the base gasket, how bad is the leak? I have oil seepage on my 09 110 that is visible after about 500 miles. The oil creaps up the outside of the cylinder from the gasket. Its not much but enouph to collect dirt after time.

The seepage is how it starts. Three head gaskets and two base gasket leaks for me the last combo of the two was only 1k after the "FIX". 1500 miles now on Jim's 131 and very happy so far.

GM, I would say that that is enough to warrant a trip back to the dealership. There should be no weepage around the base of the cylinders. Take a flashlight and look just below where the rear exhaust pipe mounts. If there is enough oil film to collect dust, you should have it fixed now under warranty. Remember, this is NOT a critical issue and you should still be able to ride with no problems. It's just something I'd get taken care of.

I have been keeping an eye on it and not cleaning the weeping areas. it is weeping at the base of the rear/rear cylinder slightly. I will wait until winter to get this taken care of so I dont loose any riding time.
thanks for the response

My 08 had the leak at 3k - gaskets replaced, no leak after that.  About 4 months later

HD had the "enhancement".  I had that done at about 8k.  I now have 16k miles and no leaks.  Was a bit annoying having it done twice but now seems to be just dandy.  Buy the bike and have fun with it!

Sorry if off topic...... could you tell me what you had done as the "enhancement"? I received a letter from MOCO a long with a thick picture book titled "The HD Motor Co. Archive collection. The letter is dated August 27th 2008 (just after I bought my 2009 SEUC) They called it a "no-cost product upgrade" if done within 2 years of the date of the letter. I took the letter to my dealer, just recently) and they said they are familiar with it, but don't show any upgrades due for my vin number. :nixweiss: Is this the same enhancement you are referring to?

 :cherry:
Well,  we made it back to Omaha after 584 miles and a rainsuit for over 500 of it.   Had to take cover in a car wash stall along with many others in Mitchell, S.D.  (due to tornado sirens and warnings in immediate area).  Rain and high winds pretty bad at times.

I'll have to wait till I see the bike again after it returns via Allied around the 1st of Sept.   I didn't bother to look for any gasket seepage once I got my tired butt off of it last Saturday.  I will say I'm still aggrevated with the higher gearing.  Too much down shifting required.   I'm still considering the 30 tooth crank sprocket deal.....but still hesitant due to lack of compensator with it.

I never cared for "cruise" which has been in my cars/trucks.......but I LOVE it on the Harley.   Plus,  I never thought I would ever care about or use the heated grips and I can now say they come in handy while riding in a cold rain with no gloves available. :P

I'll chime in.   AT 5,000 miles on my 2007 SERK (the probllem child), post recall ... or whatever "improvements", she runs great.  Smooth, awesome.  Only 5K but jsut feels solid.   Not like before.  Felt "iffy" before.

Ive done nothing major.  Fuel back, monster ovals, K&N, redline.  Long trips, short hops, hot weather, two up, solo.

Fine.

Have a 2007 Road King SE.  At 10,000 miles had cylinder gaskets replaced at City Limits Harley Davidson in Palatine, IL.  No problems & now have 30,000+ miles.  Think HD got it right.
