trailer wiring ?
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:46:25 PM »

Bike has a 6 pin connector from Bushtec

Trailer has 4 pin connector like on a cage

Is there an adapter that will work on the bike for 6-4 pin?

J&P has a pig tail that plugs into the rear harness under the seat, so you don't have to cut wires.  Or make one should be fairly easy once you see the plug.

I have one of those also. Just did not want to change wiring harnesses every time I tow a different trailer.

Since we have 3 trailers and 2 of them are wired for 6 pin flat, and the other has a 4 pin flat, I thought it would be easier to just plug in an adapter into the existing wiring harness on the bike.

Any reason to not just make and replace on the odd trailer a bushtec compatible connector?

New trailer has single led lights per side, that would require changing the led's out and rewiring the entire trailer.....not going to happen :nixweiss:

Not sure but Bushtec may use this company...is it the Brother that makes the air pump?

http://www.electricalconnection.com/wire-harnesses/hrns-trailer.htm

They have a 5-pin to 4-pin converter....don't know if it will work.

Is the 6 pin flat or round?

Is this what you have?

Quote
6-Pin Round:
This is an older style connector that has a 1-inch diameter plug with 5 round pins spaced around a center round pin (shown on left in the photo).  Unfortunately - there are several wiring variations of this plug ("RV" and "Trailer"), so although the physical connector may be the same, the electrical wiring ("pin-out") may be different from what you need. If you have this type socket on your tow vehicle - you must have a technician verify the electrical pin-out is compatible with your trailer.  This plug is available on our trailers at no extra cost, but must be specified upon ordering.

Quote
4-Pin Flat:
This is a typical plug used for small utility trailers and boats.  It does not support electric brakes or auxiliary power.

Hmmm, don't ever recall seeing a 6 pin flat.

A call is order to Bustec for the appropiate end. Time to build a pigtail.
