Suggestions...bike is at dealer still
« on: July 30, 2009, 11:08:47 AM »

I am not sure what to do, after last weeks trip my bike was knocking and pinging and running very hot. I also noticed some new noises in the top end area and power lose, so last thursday i called my dealer and brought it in friday monring.

The bike has been there on their lift since, they have agreed with me that the bike has a problem, but they dont know what. Yesterday they supposedly had a HD rep look at it and he has them doing some tests. I just spoke to them and they still have no idea.

This bike is an 09 Ultra CVO with 2400 miles on it. I did the 1k service myself, of course my last conversation with them they asked why i didnt have them service it. I am not sure if they are trying to start a finger pointing, but i bought the service manual and supplies from them so there is a paper trail.

What would you do? I havent called the MOCO directly yet as ai was giving them a chance, btu now i have become very frustrated and disappointed with both the bike, dealership and harley.

That's a tough call, do you trust the dealership??
And if you do....maybe they will work it out. If you don't take it somewhere else.

Maybe someone here can help you find someone reputable.

Knocking and pinging......yeah me too. Top end noise....a little....power loss ain't got that.

the bike is bad enough that they had no problem noticing its flaws. I just feel like they are dragging their feet on this and peeved.

I do trust them and they did my 95" in my previous street glide...that i feel like i should have kept!

I am really curious if anyone else has had similiar issues with an 09 110"?

If the factory rep is already involved, I'd not convulute it by moving to another dealership.  I'd go to the dealership and talk to them in person.....ask specific questions:

What did you find that inspired you to call the factory rep in on it?

What is the factory reps thoughts that he's asking you to check the things that he's asked for?

What kind of time frame are we looking at, for a definitive answer?

If it's going to be more than another week, then we need to talk about a loaner bike (a rental that they cover) or compensation for loss of use.

At this point in time, I'd not be to concerned that you did your own service...provided that you have receipts.  Obviously, the problem is internal and there isn't anything internal that's covered on the 500 mile or 1k service.  There have been a few here that have had their motor replaced with very low miles on it and you might find yourself in that catagory.

Thansk these are the questions i have been trying to get answers for, i am planning to go there tonight and talk to them in person. I do know the owner and a rep are involved and as i told them on the phone i dont blame them as they inhereted the problem same as me. I just want an answer as to what why and when.

I dont have an issue getting a replaced engine, but lets get on with it already, 5 days and no answer.

I understand your frustration and I'd certainly let them know how I feel.  However, some of these guys have waited longer just for the factory rep to show up.   I read where one guy waited three weeks......now that's excessive!

If they have to give you a new motor, it's going to be longer.  They have to make the cases with your VIN number in it.

I have found that most factory reps are trained to know nothing that would put the blame on Harley.

I agree with JC's suggestions...

Ask what tests have been performed and why...and what the results of the tests were...

Ask what tests are planned and why...

Ask who has the ball for the next step...

Ask for the action plan - with timing of the next steps...

If you trust the dealer and feel you have a relationship with the dealer - try to be patient.  And as long as the dealer is responsive to you - try to stay professional with them - try to keep the dealer on your side.  As you said yourself, they are in the same position you are in with that the factory rep being involved...

If it comes down to you thinking you are not being treated fairly with either the timeline or the actions - ask your dealer to work with you to elevate the issue above the factory rep food chain level within the MOCO.  If you need a more direct conversation about the process - save it for someone who has the proper level of authority to do something for you...

well considering the bike is only a few months old i am not going with your answer Hoist, i really think they(harley) shoudl foot the bill for the repair.

Maybe when i go into the dealer and talk to them in person i will get some answers, especially after our conversation this morning as they now know how i feel about this.

I FULLY agree 1jeep! Unfortunately I never found any dealers capable of getting these things right around here, especially using HD parts and methodology to do it! Too many inferior design flaws in these things to leave it be, while souping them up some at the same time! We all have our crosses to bear. Mine's to not futilely deal with HD Dealers! FTD! ;)

Good luck with yours man! :2vrolijk_21:

i do also agree with you about most dealers and this is why i do my own service. And yes, they even started to ask me why i dodnt bring it to them for a $280 oil change...i mean first service....lol

At this point i guess all i can do is wait and see what will happen over the next couple days.
