Sat and figured out that this was my 15th, or so, trip to Sturgis. Some were many years ago and I don't remember too much about them. What I do remember is that I rode from Chicago with NO windshiled, NO rainsuit. bike leaked oil, hard to start, and was a piece of cloth somewhere being used to slow the oil leak. AND, I loved it.
Today it's different, slightly. I still blow a little oil, but after that it's all convenience.
the Commonality is that you butt has to sit in the saddle and ride.
Sturgis is many things to many people. to me, it's the Granddaddy of all rallies, not just a destination. it's a commitement of physical, mental and spiritual fortitude.
everyone waves on the way in, except the trailer p#**$%s- more on that later. no one waves on the way out, to tired I think. the ability to see some of Our Countries most breath taking site is awesome. Many say "we're going to Sturgis". but, if you're like me, a ten day trip gives 1 day in Sturgis.
back to the trailer stuff, Looks like I'll be taking one next year, not because I'm not riding, but, I will be taking a show bike along with and having a chase vehicle comes in handy, don't need to pack as heavy and in case of break downs, piece of cake.
every time I come home, the only thing I can think of is,,,,,next year.

Well said Larry.  I have not been able to go the last two years and it has been killing me.  I can't really explain my obsession with the place and the rally but it definitely exists.  This week has sucked sitting at work and watching the web cams trying fill the void of not getting to go.  Great pictures and thanks for posting them.  Hopefully I'll see you there next year.   :bananarock: :apple:

Larry

Thanks for posting the pics and the story.  I've been to Stugis a few times.  Stayed at the 'Chip and Glencoe and in Deadwood a couple of times.  Next year I'm bringing the wife for her first time and was happy to learn about the Spearfish lodge.  We're going to try to book a room there next year.  Hope to get the chance to see you at Sturgis for the 70th!

Cheers!

Larry,

Total excellence.  Fantastic post, great pics, great commentary.  I'm just trying to figure out how you got 1500 more miles on your bike than I have on mine.  I guess this new gal here is holding me back from riding, and I didn't realize it until now.  Anyway, I wish I could have made it there.  Your photos have sold me on going next year.  I'm looking forward to hearing what you've got up your sleeve with your new venture.

Thanks for sharing the pictures there, Mr. LarryB.  Looks like you had a GR8 time.  Certainly is beautiful riding country out there.  Your pictures do a great job of showing it.  I've never been to Sturgis.  Hopefully I'll get to go eventually.  Glad you had a great time.   :2vrolijk_21:
