Thanks for clarifying my thoughts, however I will continue to check trans level with dip stick resting on the threads, better to have a little extra than being low.

Here's another question regarding the trany, after a ride I could smell an oil odor, no leaks anywhere.
I am thinking its coming from the trany vent !

Since your bike is a 2012 (?), that comment I included for the 2013 guys on the dipstick wouldn't apply to you.  You are doing it the correct way for your bike.  I'm sorry if I confused the issue.

As for the odor, that's common and you're correct, it's the fumes escaping from the trans vent.  If you use one of the really foul smelling lubes like Redline or Bel-Ray, it can get pretty obvious.

FYI trans oil I am using is Spectro 6 Speed, found the oil to make gear select quieter and neutral a breeze to find, slips in every time.
