Headlight trim
« on: August 17, 2009, 10:31:16 AM »

I took the front fairing off for the first time. WOW. Reading some of the topics, they say to remove the headlight trim before reinstalling. I did everything but break the trim when I installed the fairing. The top 2 clips came out fine but the bottom 2, not so easy. Any ideas would be great for the next time.

I never mess with the headlight to take the fairing off.  Remove the screws.  Tug it up and out.  Unplug the headlight wires from within.  Reverse to reinstall.

I was able to take off the fairing without messing with the trim. But someone said if you take off the trim before reinstalling, it makes it easier.

Yes , but allway removes the trim from inside of the fairing , not from outside , did not even know that this would work .

Some have difficulty getting the outer fairing on or off the hooks it hangs on.  Will remove the headlight to see it better.  Not necessary though.  At least not once you learn the "feel" of getting the fairing on and off.

Why would you remove the farring in the first place?

Remove the outer fairing to service a variety of things.  Four of the instruments, audio, harness connector plugs for handlebar removal, lighter plug and other bits.  Sometimes you have to get in there.

Thanks twolanerider....I would hate to become a pro at taking the front fairing off and putting it back on. Hopefully just one more time for installing XM,CB and the  intercom system. Thanks again

Just hope there was some help in the words.  We don't need them off often (fortunately).  But some of us almost manufacture reasons to get in to things.  I brought my 2000 SERG home about 18 months ago.  From its original owner.

In the eight and a half years he'd had the bike the tank had never been off, the outer fairing had never been off, even the lower fairings had never been off.  In the year and a half it's been here the outer has been off once or twice (or five or six) times, the tank has been off at least three times and I've messed around all over the rest of the bike too.  We enjoy them in different ways one from another.  It's all good.
