Saw a cool bike today....
« on: August 24, 2009, 12:02:40 AM »

Saw this 1953 Vincent while out riding today.  It looked almost new - a very complete restoration.  Sorry for the quality of the pics, only had a camera phone with me.

Nice Vincent! One of my favorite old bikes. There's a guy around Boulder that rides ons, saw it in the mountains at a bar, but didn't have my camera. This picture came off the web a while back.

Very awesome bike.  Good pics, Bill.  Did the owner say how long it took him to restore it?

I was out riding this weekend in Middle Tennesse and saw a 1954 Vincent Black Knight at one of my stops. I talked to the fellow riding it just before he took off. What a beautiful sight! One of the guys in my group asked what something like that was worth. I guess somewhere near six figures, but it was just a guess. I know they are exceedingly rare, especially in running order.

Didn't get a chance to talk to the owner.  Next time I saw the bike he was heading down the road on it.  His riding position was VERY different than current bikes.  He was sitting very high on the seat, and the bars were very low in proportion to the rest of his body.  Wouldn't want to spend much time in that position, looked pretty uncomfortable.  Made me appreciate how far the engineers have progressed in making us comfortable on our trusty (or not) steeds.
