09 SERG CB Radio Installation help needed
« on: September 03, 2009, 06:49:17 AM »

Hey folks,

I'm gettiing ready to install a CB on my SERG.

First I need a full parts listing of all the neccesary equipment.  Is there someone out there who's already done this mod and is willing to share a list/reciept that shows each and every item I'll need..?

I don't have a whole lot of confidence that my stealor will be able to figure out how to do this ...   So I'm doing my homework on the front end.

Thanks in advance for any help offered.

Matt

Check the accessory catalog on page 623 for a couple of options.

it's not a easy do, especially internally wiring it, but I've done em, dealer wants over a K to do.

Are you sure you want to spend all the $$$ for something basically useless?? The CB is crap, your lucky to get a mile out line of site. The only good thing i see it offers is bike to bike communication and that  requires other bikes in your riding group having the CB. If your after bike to bike communications, i would look at a bluetooth setup, something like a Scala. You will spend a whole lot less money and be a happier camper.  :2vrolijk_21:

My CB set up works very well, I have talked with trucks on the interstate 4+ miles away. Most of the people I ride with have CB's on their bikes and we get about a mile range with each other. all the parts will run about 6-700 and about 5 hours labor if you internally wire it.

I've gotten out of range within minutes chatting with truckers and found my self slowing and driving 55-60 mph to keep a good conversation going... I guess thats a good thing, crusing slow with the truckers  :P IMO $600-$700 is a lot of cash to spend on 'toy' walkie talkie range..  :'(

did you hook up a SWR meter to your antenna. Many times it's the antenna, not the CB.

OH Yea,, I've got all the CB/antenna dial in cadgets, a few export radios, Galaxy 99 was one of my favorites, and a real nice Yaesu FT-900 modified Ham radio for 10 & 11 meters.  All collected from the CB'er hay days. I guess when you compare the good stuff against the Harley set up you get a little spoiled.  :'( I cleaned up all the connections on the Harley, re-modified the antenna connections, took a few kinks out the RG cable, good match, but a mile with truckers just don't get it for me. JMO.. I use mine occasionally cause it came with the bike, but i defiantly would not spend the money to install one if i didn't have it.. again, JMHO  :2vrolijk_21:
