Need new tires...Avons..??
« on: December 06, 2005, 11:08:54 AM »

I'm having to replace tires next week and was simply going to go with the OE Dunlaps...

Then I heard some guys talking about the Avon RoadRanger HL-26. Miller's in Daytona has some and they have a great look to them. A little softer compound, so mileage will be a little less, but the ride is supposed to be great with good wet/dry traction.

Load capability is over 900lb also.

Has anyone had any experience with these ..???

Yeah, 'er 'uh, phattey,
Have never seen an Avon that was better than a Dunlop as far as traction and bite go.  The ones I had experience with were harder than a rock, and dangerous in a curve hard, or wet road.  Could be something new, though.  I'll stick with Dunlop.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] Later--HUBBARD

I only have experience with the Venoms. Although I realy like them on Softails, I don't recommend them on Touring.

I just had an Ultra with stock dunflops. No problems at all. Switched to Avon Venoms and the thing starts whobbling at 90. Everything is checked, alignment, tire pressure, balancing, rubbers. All within specs.
A shock supplier told me it could be because the Venoms are VERY round, he had seen this more often. The dunflops are more flat. Don't know, could be.
We will put Metzelers on and see what the result is. Unfortunately winter is here and they already put salt on the road. No testriding for now.
Metzelers should be as good or better than the Avon Venoms. At least that's what we hear.

The more I sniff around the more I'll probably stay with the Dunlops....

Not enough info for me on the Avons....

Thanks..

Ron,

We live in Debary just down the street than from her parents.   I look forward to hearing from you on one of your adventures this way.   We are actually planning on hitting Daytona this weekend to head to the helmet shop and Daytona Harley and probably a trip on the loop and ending up on the backside of Ormond Harley.

Harry, Ron, it's in the teens here.  Stop being cruel.  If you can't really have frigid weather then at least have the common courtesy to lie about it.  Thank you.

OMG I went out side today and it was so damn cold for us.   We arent used to 60 degree weather and its just brutal to try and ride like this.   I actually had to break out a windbreaker ... woe is me :)

Is that better Don?

Don....in my compassion for my more northern CVO cousins...please feel free to come down any weekend you'd like and ride with us...

I'll even find a bike for you to ride. I have a vintage 1970 Honda Trail 70, but I don't see you keeping up on that.... ;D

Consider this an open invitation...I have the room....and we like good company..

Thanks Ron.  Appreciate that very much.  As the winter drones on it'll stay in the back of my mind too.  Honda 70?  Hmmm....?  Just from an esthetic viewpoint it'd be kind of like a tick under a bear's ass?  Hell, as long as it runs and has a right hand throttle I don't care.

That statement reminds me of the time I had taken my bike to the shop. As it got late in the day, and wasn't sure I was going to get my bike back the dealer made the following offer. "If you want you can ride a Buell Blast home and come back tomorrow and pick your bike up". He had this big grin on his face as he said that, and the reason for his grin is I'm a little of 6'2" and at that time was 300lbs +/-. Now you talk about a tick in a bear's ass! Just close your eyes and get a mental picture of that.
