Where no CVO should go!  The little back road I was on in WV turned into a nasty gravel road.  Then there was this stream we had to cross.

P.S. I know only one headlight is on.  I forgot to flip them to High and back when I started it up, as I was a bit distracted by the crappy road conditions.  :P

Bad ass... my kind of rider! Well done!!

Thanks Crusty!  We had a good time, except my riding buddy ended up with a flat tire.  Too many off road (gravel, dirt, rocks, etc.) excursions.  Luckily we were able to get a replacement tube for him.  We were doing the High Points (elevation) in MD and PA.  We ran out of time to do the one in WV though.  Oh well, there is always next time.

What do you mean?   They should both be on all the time -- high or low beam.

Taken at one of the gas stations during the Bikers for Babies ride (20 Sep 09).

Very few gas stations, 7000 riders

What do you mean?   They should both be on all the time -- high or low beam.

I installed the Xenon Link headlights and the drop in voltage on startup will occasionally knock one out.  The work-around is to flip your lights to High and then back to Low to get them both on.  I saw a way to fix it on here by rewiring them but I have not done it yet.  I am in the habit of starting my bike with the lights on High and then flipping them to low once it is started.  I just forgot to do it that time.

When I was on my first ride with mine, I saw this big lilac tree out in the middle of a field, next to an old foundation of a house. Couldn't resist riding the bike out there to try and get a good photo... had to ride over a pile of rocks, and through a couple of small, dry water run-offs. Of course I was thinking of how much I'd hate myself if I dumped my bike on the rocks with less than 1000 miles on it... lol

Shot didn't turn out as cool as I hoped... but it was worth a shot

I've never been too bright anyway... I used to take my Goldwing on long gravel roads in the back country all the time... and at the end of my 49-state, 10K miles in 10 days ride up to Hyder, I even followed all the guys on dual sports up to Salmon Glacier... 18 miles of some pretty nasty gravel road up the side of a mountain!  :bananarock:

Got to the glacier... and my damn camera washed out the glacier in the picture.

It was after that ride I decided the wing had to go and I wanted a dual sport, so I could really get out & about. So I bought a BMW 1150GS... it was used and already tricked out, so I didn't have to do too much to it. The next year I stopped by Hyder, and then kept heading north, all the way up the Haul Road to Prudhoe Bay!!  :bananarock:

I kept the GS when I got my SERG... so hopefully it'll give me an outlet when I need to get dirty, so the SERG will be safe!  :2vrolijk_21:

Some wide-azz bags too. Where was this at in Tomahawk?
Photos 1 – 6 were taken near Arbor Vitae, WI. (near Tomahawk)
Photos 7-12 were taken at Sara Park in Tomahawk.
Photos 13-20 were taken at H-D’s Kaphaem Road Facility in Tomahawk.

And a drip pan, mine leaked like a sieve...
I had an early ’73 CH built in calendar ’72. These early engines used the 900 cc head bolt pattern and the cylinders would distort substantially when assembled. It wasn’t at all unusual to burn through a quart of oil in 300 miles; the oil tank only held 3 quarts and there was no oil filter on the CH model.

Damn Crusty!  That is some serious riding.  I could not compare my rides to those!  I have to admit that I did enjoy getting off the beaten trail.  Maybe I will have to add another bike to the stable.  ;D  I did not like having to clean my bike at the hotel each night.  The SERG deserves to be shiny!

One of my bucket list items is to do a bike trip in South Africa.  Now I think it may be a two part ride.  HD on road and BMW for some off road fun!

I did not like having to clean my bike at the hotel each night.  The SERG deserves to be shiny!

I'll admit that is going to be one of my biggest challenges... keeping the SERG shiny. I washed my Wing once or twice a year, whether it needed it or not.  :nixweiss:
And that was averaging 25K miles a year. Made me a hit with the DQ crowd...  :coolblue:

The GS is a hoot! Bullet proof (trust me she's gone down more times than a $5 hooker on payday!),

but decent road ride to get'er to where you want to get off the pavement. We rode for 3 weeks straight through Canada & Alaska, and never had any problems with getting beat down.

Since I've completely  :jack: this topic... I'll throw in a plug... if you want to read a great ride report, which had close to 300K hits last time I checked, here is the story of my Alaska Ride with my buddies.   Alaska Titty Bar Tour '08 Don't worry about the title, it is family friendly... just a the "marketing scheme" my buddy came up with to make the ride more interesting... no actual titties were harmed in the making of this report. I've been told once you start reading, plan on spending several hours seeing it through to the end, because it is a hoot, with tons of pics.

I've taken her to Death Valley and ridden it fully loaded where the lil' dirt bike fellas thought I was nuts.

This is the AFTER picture... after I picked my bike up off the ground... I let off the throttle a bit when I hit that last big rock, and then when I tried to apply power, I went to hard, and actually got the front tire off the ground, poppine a wheelie over the top before I went down... lol

No way I'll be getting rid of this bike anytime soon! Now if there was only a trailer I could get for it to hitch up behind the SERG, so I can ride one to the dirt and then get off & play... I'd be in heaven!!  :bananarock:
