Front Fender Problem
« on: December 08, 2005, 05:56:06 AM »

I was cleaning my bike tonite when I noticed what I thought was a splatted bug on the front edge of the fender. But it was not, then I thought it was a stone chip & it was not that either. On closer inspection I found there was like a small hairline crack on the bottom edge & water must have got in & has caused it to rust under the clear coat. Does anyone think this could be covered by warranty???

Mike, good pictures of the 'damage' and subsequent rust problem........I would think that asking someone to be responsible for fixing it would depend on determining 'when' the damage occurred.  Before or after you assumed control of the bike.  Might be a hard thing to do, huh?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]   But, it looks like it could be easily 'fixed' by a knowledgeable paint/body shop.  Or, a dentist.  :-/ Har! Good luck w/ it regardless....... [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]  spyder

Take it in an make a fuss about it >:(  Cost you big bucks.  If the dealer won't take care of it, call moco customer service.  Worth a try.

Bummer story AUSSIE,

Hope they warranty it for you, but if not I probably would grind out the area to get all the oxidation out of the metal. I would think the area would be small from the looks of the pictures you could use a dremmal or a die grinder. Then seal the area with the clear coat that HD uses, if unsightly I would suggest a chrome fender tip. If you do wind up putting a fender tip on it please post the picture as I would like to see how it look on your bike

Hey Reo, I was thinking the same thilng, but was afraid to suggest it....everybody's taste is so different.  But I really think one of those new small fender tips would look cool, not the big kind that has the light in it, but the small, thin chrome one.  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]   spyder

Yep, Reo......that 1st one is definitely you.  I like it.  The 2nd one was the thin one that I was referring to.....either one would be good, I think.   8-)  spyder
