Question on Gas Cap Filler Lid
« on: September 23, 2009, 05:38:50 PM »

Does anyone know if the chrome gas cap filler lid from an '09 or '10 will fit an '06?  I kinda like the bar and sheild with the CVO around it.  I checked with the local H-D dealership and they said it is not a restricted part but I am wondering if it will fit an '06 since they went to the 6 gallon tank I am not sure if the hardware is still the same.

I thought the 6 gallon tanks didn't come into production until the '08 models.

Yup, the fuel tank, console, and fuel filler door were all redesigned for the '08 Touring models.  I think his question is, will the new fuel filler door ('08 and later) fit on his '06 model.  Based on what I see in the catalog, I'm going to say no.  If you look in the accessory catalog, the accessory doors are shown as one version to fit '92 - '07 models, and a different part number to fit '08 - '10 models.  The same is true if you look at the consoles.

Topper, since there are only a couple screws holding the door to the console, it shouldn't be a big deal to take one off a late model bike and see if it will physically fit the older model, if you want to prove it to yourself.  You would think the dealership would have offered to do that for you, if they really wanted to make a sale. :confused5:

I checked my stealer on that part and they said it was restricted. Correct me if I am wrong but the 2010 lid has the cvo emblem in the lid itself, I don't think the 2009 model has anything on it.  :'(

Nope, won't fit.  I had a custom lid on my '99, which is the same up through '07.  It didn't fit my '08 or my new 2010.

My dealership said it was not restricted and they can order it but the question was if it would fit due to the 6 gallon tank and if the console parts were redesigned.

Which I am finding out that it was and probably won't fit.

if it says CVO on it, it is restricted IF it came from the factory. most dealers have never been asked to order any of these items. they go through the process, take your money, and the next day you get a call.
now HD does make some things that say Sceamin Eagle that anyone can get, but CVO, no, you need a VIN# to buy it

Man LARRYB  You can really take the wind out of a guy's sail.....LOL!  Anyways I can believe what you are saying.  I remember that she had said that she has not ordered one before. So I think you maybe right about them calling me back with a no go.  So I guess it was a good thing that it probably won't fit the '06.

I tried ordering the one off of a 2010 SEUC for my 2008 SEUC through my dealer. Parts manager called 2 days after I ordered it and said "No Go"..
Must be a 2010 CVO touring model to order it, plus they would need a vin #.. I sort of liked the look of the part also. I think the 2010 lid looks better
than the 2009 model of the same. Screw it, guess I won't get one at all now..
