Friend's son is home from Iraq! Need the NorCal Crew's help
« on: September 25, 2009, 01:03:04 AM »

My friend's son just finished his tour in Iraq and is at Camp Pendelton as of this morning.  On October 1, he will be coming to San Bruno on a bus with members of his company.  I will be meeting his parents in San Jose at 7:45 AM then riding to the gas station on 152 & 33 to meet up with the Patriot Guard Riders.  We will then escort them down 152 to 101 up to their base in San Bruno.  You can join us in San Jose, at the Patriot Guard meeting site, or anywhere else along the route.  There will also be a second staging area at the In-and-Out Burger in Gilroy.  You do not have to be a Patriot Guard member to participate!  His parents are trying to get as many motorcycles (and cars) as possible to welcome them home.   It is an amazing experience, especially since the police and fire departments line the route and pay tribute to our Marines that are fighting for our country.  I know that it's a work day, but I'm counting on you guys to help out!  If you have any questions, call or PM me.  Thanks in advance and Semper Fi!

I wish I was a little closer to ride, I am a Patriot Guard rider. Just keep posting anything so it stays at the top. Good luck and I hope a lot of riders comes out to wish these guys and gals home.  :2vrolijk_21:

Here's the official PGR email in case anyone in SoCal wants to give them a send off!

The Patriot Guard has been asked to provide a (multipart) escort for the 3rd and final wave of Echo Company  2/23rd Marines of San Bruno, Ca.  They will be returning to their home base (San Bruno) on Oct 1st between 11:30 AM (1130)  and 12:30 PM (1230)  from a tour in Iraq.

We will have multiple staging points.  Gunny Doner in SoCal will take care of the pick up and it will be posted in the Statewide announcement.

The Marines will physically depart from Camp Pendleton NLT 4:00 AM (0400) probably via the Main Gate (Oceanside) and go up I 5.  They will make a 15 minute fuel stop in Frazier Park (Gorman/Grapevine area).  Based on normal traffic, that would arrive between 6:45 AM (0645) and 7:00 AM (0700).  They will depart from there NLT 7:15 AM (0715).  The next scheduled stop is at Harris Ranch in Coalinga, arriving between 9:15 AM (0915) and 9:30 AM (0930) and taking a 30 min rest/fuel stop.  They will continue up I 5 and exit on to Hwy 152 and come over to 101 N to 380 to El Camino Real to Sneath Ln (San Bruno) and turn on to Commodore Ln.  My math has the arrival time at the training center at approx 12:00 (noon), if they stay on schedule.

We will stage at the service stations at the junction of San Luis Rd (Hwy 33) and Hwy 152.  We will stage there at 9:30 AM (0930).

This should be adequate as its early enough to pick them up if they're early, and there are facilities for the PGR and supporters.  This will probably be a "rolling pick up" (so as not to delay the Marines).  In addition, this is approx 103 miles from the San Bruno destination meaning any scoot has the mileage capability.  Riders and Family Supporters can also wait anywhere along the route from there to San Bruno (ie Casa de Fruita) and are encouraged to o so - hopefully with flags and signs.

RC - SgtMaj
ARC - TBA

We will stage at Starbucks, The Plant Mall, at Monterey Rd and Curtner at 8:00 AM (0800) for those that want to ride to the primary staging together.

Get this word out, please to everyone.  We will more than likely have support from the various PD's, Serif's Dept etc so lets make sure we have a "mess" of scoots.

Change in meeting place Thursday morning.  Instead of meeting at the Starbucks in San Jose, we are meeting at my friend's house at 7:45 and going straight to Santa Nella.  Their address: 6060 Loma Prieta Drive, San Jose, Ca. 95123.  See you there!
