Once you get them fixed, don't ever turn them past 3 or 4 max. If you do that, you should get alittle better life out of them, and at 3 or 4, you should be able to feel the heat pretty good through your gloves, if they are working right.

The failure rate is so high that they are almost always backordered.

I have a theory. I have had three fail usually after my bike has been in for service. I ask the shop not to turn off the grips, I think some twist them to hard. I keep mine on all the time. In the summer allmost off so there is no noticeable heat. I have not had mine fail since I began asking service to leave them alone. Just got them put on my new bike, so well see.

Leaving them on all the time puts quite a load on the Start System. If you had a load meter installed you would see it pegged on start.Same on the heated seat. FYI

Dont think you should have to leave them on all the time for them to last. They need to fix them

I've only had 3 sets go put in 2 1/2 yrs.
Last set (Ironside style) was changed to the "HOG" style and those have lasted the longest...

turns out the grips had failed, the dealer called and said Harley had an intergalatic backorder 6 weeks!!!!!! so i called HD and gave them a rash of chit so they finally pulled a set off the CVO Assembly line and overnighted them to the dealer. I was impressed. FWI turns out th reason for the backorder is and update from the manufacturer, add an -A to the part number.

Still have the OEM heated grips on my 07 SEUC.  I've had the bike since November of '06.

I replaced 4 sets.  The problem IMHO is moisture gets into the left side dial that you turn to control temp.  There is no way to totally seal that since it moves.  Mine always had rust from moisture and once it even crumbled apart inside the handlebar.  I got Heat Demons they work Great so far and Roger at Heat Demons has always been available to talk to me when I had questions.  Alot of guys on the site went this way before me so I thought I would try them.

I like them - the problem isn't that HD does not replace them my problem was the 4+ hours involved with replacing them -to schedule, go over to the dealer, sit and wait for them to replace the grips - I have an 2007 and 4 times is 3 to many in my opinion.

Gone through 4 sets, 2 within 4 months.

Now that winter is coming I can only guess I'll be seeing yet another pair replacement coming soon.
