King Tour Pack
« on: October 18, 2009, 11:05:56 AM »

I want to get a king tour pack for my 2004 O/B SEEG, but not the original style.  Looking for a classic style detachable that can accommodate the side marker LED lights as well as the 2010 CVO rear LED light bar that I can paint to match the Orange Pearl/Vivid black paint scheme. Can anyone advise what I need?  Is the CVO light bar available as a separate part?  Who can paint to match?

Which side marker, new style or old? The newer style has lights that wrap around the corner a bit.
The tourpaks available for our bikes have the "recessed" style, like you see below.

The SE insert in the light bar will be the tough part.

As for paint, "paint by Gene" seem to have a good following here.

Mark on this site (Grover) had a new front fender painted for his Orange & Black. His bike is nice enough that he took 1st overall at the 105 party last year. Drop him a note about paint.

Thanks Duane.  Actually looking for the wraparound style, aside from the marker, is there any difference I should know about?

I'll check out Paint by Gene, I remember several members were very satisfied with his work.  I'll also PM Grover.

If you got the regular KTP for an '04 wouldn't it have the lights on it you want? Get one of those used or new in prime and have it painted the color you wanted. I thought it was just the CVO specific ones that didn't have all the lights like the Classic's/Ultra's. :nixweiss:

I think the taillight assembly may be different, but if you are order the new style tourpak - then it doesn't matter.

This is the website for "Paint by Gene"  http://bigfatys.com/

The side lights have to be added. There is just a chrome filler panel in there from the factory.

Nothing's ever simple.  The 2010 tour pack bottom isn't the same as the 04.  There's a thread (I think it's in the Street Glide board) where somebody used an older tour pack to put on a 2010 SESG and they had to add 1/2" spacers.  The bottoms of the tour packs are form molded to the quick release brackets.  I'm not sure what it would be like to try to put a new tour pack on the older quick release bracket.

You may be able to buy an older tour pack and just cut it out for the LED lights across the back and for the side marker that wraps around the back (late model style).  Good luck and let us know where it all ends up for you.

Pete, sent you an email with the 2010 CVO Ultra tour pak light bar pages from the parts catalog.  The parts are not restricted, but they are pricey as the LED light bar consists of three separate LED clusters and each has a list price of $100+.

Good luck with your project.

Well I priced out all the parts needed for the LED tour pack light bar, $740 with the 20% discount!  Ouch!!  I think I'll wait till HD puts in their P&A catalog next year.  They'll probably want half that amount if they offer it for sale at all.

Picked up a brand new king tour pack for $100.  Now thinking of installing air wing luggage rack with integral red LED light bar in lieu of the above.  Anyone have opinion if the air wing light bar throws off sufficient light for running and stop light?

Pete-
I didn't get the air wing LED as I don't think it puts out much light from the two I have seen.

See Bob, that's the difference between you and me.  You actually give thought to this stuff.  You're smart.  I just liked the looks of the damn thing better with the light than without....  :huepfenlol2:

I put that rack and light on the ultra tour pak for the old SERG.  Unless you squat down behind the bike the light doesn't do much.  Sad but true.  It is, however, still an extra splash of red.  And that's never a bad thing :drink: .

As you stated, any additional light from the rear is better.  Just got cheap in my old age.   Been going with purchases I know that work well for me I guess.    :cherry:
