Legend leak
« on: October 21, 2009, 07:41:44 PM »

I came home today and noticed a small puddle under the left muffler (D&D falsie) near the rear of the bike.  WTF is that.  Further investigation revealed that my Legend air shock is leaking oil.  I'll have to phone them in the morning but just wondering if they can repair/rebuild the shock or if I'll have to spring for a new one.  It will be three years old in December and I'm sure it is out of warranty.

To make matters worse we have an overnight trip planned this weekend.  Oh well, don't think I'll be able to do that.   :'( :'( :'(

Yep Jerry, they sure can!   They are good to work with.    I didn't know you were fully healed and riding again...glad to hear it.    :2vrolijk_21:

Yeah I am.  Got back in the saddle in mid-August and doing well, thanks.  Good to hear that they can repair so I'll get it off to them after I talk to them.  Probably should send both since the right one might need inspection also.

Might be worthwhile to ask if they have a recommended service interval in either time or miles.

That is a good idea but I had not yet read your comment Don when I spoke to them today.  But I will follow up and ask.

Courtney gave me a RA to send the shocks back (she said send both so they could inspect even the 'good one' - I had planned to do this in any case).  Told me that if the shock itself was defective they would replace it even though it is almost three years old.  But if it is not a 'defect' but I guess worn part, bad seal, etc., then there will be a charge.  They will have to advise after inspection - no 'flat fee' to rebuild, etc.

So I'll get them off tonight and UPS them on their way to Rapid City tomorrow.

True, true.  I did realize that I have my stock shocks so guess I'll put those back on so I can ride this weekend.  Prolly won't like them but heck you gotta do what you gotta do.   :2vrolijk_21:

Legend Suspension received my shocks last Wednesday, October 28th.  They phoned this morning to say they were repaired and ready to ship back to me.  The one which had the oil leak was replaced under warranty as being defective.  Said the other shock needed some repair also.  Did not understand full details except I think they replaced all the wear parts and upgraded a couple of fittings to the current design.  Total cost - $142.  I am pleased that it was so reasonable.

BTW my BSR will be real happy to get them back.  Have ridden about 700 miles with stock shocks back on the bike and she has grumbled the whole time.  They do make a big difference in the ride quality.

That's good to know.  Glad they looked after you like a company should stand behind their product.  I haven't had trouble with mine (yet) but have always heard good things about their 'stand-up' position.  :2vrolijk_21: spyder

I've always heard great comments about Legends service.  Glad to see they came thru for you!   :2vrolijk_21:

Got the Legends back on Thursday and got them installed today.  No chance to ride 'cause I've been chasing leaves all afternoon - love my trees but hate the leaves this time of year.  But glad to have them back on the bike and ready to go.  All in all not a bad experience.  Anything can fail but how the vendor takes care of it makes all the difference.   Having had them for almost three years I think they did very well by me.  :2vrolijk_21:

Jerry, I've been running mine twice that long, so you shouldn't expect to have problems in 3 years.  JMHO.  Hope alls well with them now and you get many, many years of cushy ride out of 'em.  :2vrolijk_21: har!  spyder
