That's a relief.  Sucks that you even had to worry about whether or not it'd be taken care of.  Should've known there'd be bad juju from putting down the red SEEG.  That's messing with some powerful forces of nature right there.

Should have just bought the $30 poster d00d posted before I did the trade and would have had both.  (cherry and citrus picture).   Needed to get the citrus out of my system, made the dealer an offer, and they took it.  Sign of the not so good economic times.

I was kidding about the bad luck from the red bike haunting.  Am pretty sure they can't really do that.  The new one will be fun.  They've all got their growing pains.  Was the AK-20 part of the transplants?

The forks will be taken off over Thanksgiving and sent to Traxxion.  I could put the removed AK20's in the new forks myself but want Traxxion to take them apart and make sure they are ok.  My top adjusters were froze up. Not even sure I need the adjustability feature as I can't easily get to them anyway.
I don't know how anyone rides one of these things stock.  You and this site have pretty much ruined me.   Bob   :cherry:

Only adjust mine twice.  Within the first ten days after install.  Would've only needed to do it once but I didn't fully comprehend just how "little" they meant when they said "a little adjust does a lot."  So I moved them too far then had to dial them back a bit.  Once right was right forever though.

Was glad it's not a more common necessity though.  Pulling the switch cover off isn't a big pain.  But it's still a nuisance would rather not do all the time.

Hell Boatman,

I had the same thing happen on my 2009 CUSE4.  Paint pealed off from around two of the screws, and bubbled around the third.  It happened 2 weeks after I bought the bike, (August 2008) and is now spreading.  Did you get the factory to warranty the fairing replacement?  So far I have had NO success with  Harley Davidson or the dealership.  They claim that because I removed the windshield, that void the warranty.  Been fighting this for over a year.
             Thanks, Chris

Chris-

I was fortunate in that the salesman was standing there when I removed the molding.  They say that a outer fairing is ordered.
I think you need to take the approach with the dealer thet you are going to drive the bike thru the front window of the dealership to get their attention.  If you haven't already call HD customer service and be nice but firm.  Hope it works out for both of us.

Good luck, Bob

Has mother Harley told you this?  Or has the dealership said mother Harley said this?

Have you asked the dealership where in the warranty that removing the windshield is proscribed?  Also should ask them where in the install docs that come with the many different windshield options Harley sells that it warns that removing the original violates the warranty terms and terminates the warranty.  When they can't document an answer to either ask them when they're going to call Harley again and get the warranty approved; because if they don't call them you will.

Don not that I agree, but the "excuse" that they (MoCo) is going to use is when owner removed/replaced windshield they overtightened the screws causing the crack. I don't know if there is a way to test the TQ on a screw before it is removed, but I'm sure they (dealer/MoCo) would more then likely remove the screw to see what the customer is talking about and then ask if he's changed windshields at that time the burden of proof is on the owner to prove that they didn't overtighten the screws. It's a crock, but it is what it is. :( >:(

Understand the premise Gary.  But unless I misread at the time of his problem the only tightening had been done by the MoCo.  He was the first remover.  Granted, they can choose not to believe him on that fact.  But I'd sure as hell make the area rep call me a liar to my face.

Area service rep. declined claim.  I called Cust Service  They said that Area service rep. trumped them!!  There was nothing they could do. The paint came off the first time I removed windshied. I never tightned screws.  I have taken the windshield off my 05 Ultra 100's of times, paint is perfect.

Might be a fool's errand.  But I'd call MoCo customer service again.  Been too many cases where an area service rep looked again after someone bitched loudly enough.  Or you could just start being so annoying to the selling dealer about it they do it on their own dime just to shut you up about it.  Either way they don't deserve being let off the hook too easy.

That will work more often then not.

I know this doesn't help any now but, since reading this post I have decided to replace the rubber on the windshield trim with "Felt" (you know the kind that you use on the bottoms of lamps so they don't scuff the coffee tables)
they sell large sheets at Lowe's. I will cut to fit and go that route, the rubber that comes stock seems to stick to the paint all the time. Not too interested in having the same outcome as this thread.

I oversized the 3 holes in the windshield trim molding by a couple drill sizes over 1/4" and it fit much better.   The molding is so stiff and needs that little extra flex/movement for fitment.
